My experience today. Subjective observation of the Rolex market.

I should say my subjective observation of the Grey market.

So I went into my local AD today which also houses the intake reception for the local Rolex Service Center.

The AD had ladies Datejust that were “For Exhibition Only.” Ok. Fine.

Got my new 16670 Pepsi adjusted. Really nice people there and love to talk watches. The tech seemed embarrassed that they couldn’t offer me anything. Again. Fine.

So after the sizing went down to one of the Greys in my town. They had what I wanted to try on and what I’d love to buy soon. The all Everose Gold GMT II. I tried it on. NIB. Late 2023 sales date.

They seemed desperate to make a sale.

In the span of about a 7-8 minute interaction they lowered the price nearly $ 8,000.

They eventually offered it to me right at list. Taxes included. They said they would waive the 4 % credit card fee. Wow.

I left without it and 30 minutes later they called me. To tell me they would ship down from Tokyo a 2023 sales version slightly used for even less than list. A few Gs less. They asked me if I would like to have it shipped down and would I come in on Sunday?

Felt a bit needy or desperate to make a sale. Lots of salesmen and women standing around.

Just my

Very telling. Japan grey market sellers can be flagrantly over priced from my observations. But definitely see the market trending down especially for a fellow gaijin living on the island!

Interesting observations and take on your experience. I like the RG GMT but that is somewhat of a difficult watch, based on price, to move. I have purchased RG watches before when they were hot and always took a bath when it was time to sell. I wonder if they would be as aggressive with a SS Daytona, Pepsi, Batman, etc. I do think the market has changed and some models have definitely eased up on pricing in the secondary market. If you really want to know what the watch is "worth" send our Trusted Sellers a note and ask what trade/sell value on the watch is and be prepared to really see the market.

That's the way to do it !! The ADs will soon be ready to discount !

Well, this is very interesting. Good for those who want to buy...not good for those who need to sell! Either way I am good with this. Thanks Tom

Good report. The PM models will always be the first to soften.

I don’t know about that. The grey market dealers must clear out a lot of inventory which they now feel believe is overvalued.

Are the AD’s getting enough allocations from Rolex to exceed demand to the point of discounting?

And if the greys can’t sell at a premium, why should the AD’s feed them?

I think these sell at list or just below at this point on most of the used markets. Still a great price for you in your market. Congrats.

Not as serious as I was prior to trying it on.

I nearly doubled up and bought one when I got the SS GMT Pepsi a few days ago.

I like it. The Everose Gold GMT. Not sure I loved it though.

Good move, that’s a lot of money to spend and if you don’t love it …

Enjoy the 5 digit

Full PM Rolex have never held much value. These days people seem just as interested in the deal as in the watch itself.

This rose gold gmt has been under retail for a long time. Even for brand new ones, they are trading below retail. Buy only if you really love it.

Wow, that's quite an experience you had at the AD and the Grey market! It's always interesting to see the different approaches and offers from different sellers. It sounds like the Grey market was really eager to make a sale with those price drops and even offering to ship a slightly used version. Did you end up considering their offer?

Were you tempted to make a counter offer? Maybe 20%? See what they would do.

Always liked the RG GMT II.

Meanwhile here in the states went to a grey dealer in town who had a 2021 steel BLRO on oyster lightly worn with card/box, etc for $21,000. First time I had seen it in person. It's a great watch but can probably find new in box around that price.

Oh yes. I considered it. Feels like the price is going to drop more. We shall see.

I really would prefer to buy from a trusted seller on here. However the import duties are brutal. It was $ 888.13 just on my 16670 Pepsi GMT II.
