It does run a little slow, but seems to be running fine. I know now, that perhaps the amplitude is more important, so I’ll use that as my gauge.

Kat, you frequently tell people to let it go. Perhaps, that good advice here for you.

Sounds more like a "my AD said" similar to that one person here who posted it. Is this information authenticated, or printed? Probably not is my best guess

You gave the op a kind forgiving nod - that was generous of you

And yet the op doubled down yet again.

But, but in the original post "I was thinking of telling them it’s running a little slow, even if it’s running fine."

Wow - compare this to me not wanting to send in my four-year-old watch with the 32XX movement that is running slow and is out of spec, BECAUSE I STRONGLY BELIEVE, DUE TO PRIOR EXPERIENCE, THAT IT'S GOING TO COME BACK MANGLED AND DAMAGED FROM RSC, AND IT'S IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION NOW.

Agreed. Thankfully we have many members of the forum that share their knowledge and passion of horology, these watches, their movements, performance, brand/model history, and other interesting aspects of this hobby.

I sent mine to RSC for check-up right before the warranty expiry. I told them not to polish it. Luckily, it didnt come back with scratches.

I just dropped off a Submariner Date for complete overhaul. It's 10 years old and was still keeping time at +1 sec every 24 hours. I think you are still a long way off from servicing if you are still within the 5 year warranty period.

The only reason why I dropped mine off was because the rotor started making noises (I suspect a loose rotor).

If you tell RSC that your watch is gaining/losing time... they may just regulate it.

Well, that would be the point, and while doing so, make sure everything is working, as it should.

Hi Kat

Anything with a 32xx movement, absolutely. Chances are it may have low amplitude, in which case Rolex will probably give it a full service.

Anything else, no, unless it genuinely was running out of spec

Originally, I thought Kat's strategy of sending in a watch for service was a good one, however after seeing all the responses, I think the risks of having the watch off my wrist outweigh any service warranty benefits.

It is distressing to hear how people get their watches back from RSC is worse shape than they sent them.

I propose everyone just let this go. Kat has made strong and valuable contributions to the Forum - while she perhaps misstated the correct approach to service.

Heck it’s said I made a minor error once.

Thanks, Frank and Kevin. I was under the apparently mistaken impression that I was fairly well respected here. I was very surprised to be flamed, like that.

Rolex recommend a 10 year service interval for the 3235, so I personnaly won't be servicing it before then if running ok

My experience of Rolex customer support is quite good, so if/when I do have it serviced, I would request them not to restore/polish it.

If my watch was running “slower” than 2 seconds by that time, I think I might send it in to be regulated. I don’t like watches that run slow anyway. I know the risk to rewards is there and I hate cracking open a virgin Rolex but that might be reason for me to send it on at that 4.8 year mark. Rikki did my last routine service and that was at the 15 year mark and it really didn’t need it then. Rikki also doesn’t leave dust on the dial or scratches from serving either…..

Yes I think you should. I had mine ‘break’ right after the warranty lapsed. Didn’t wind or something can’t remember. Paid for service and thought if only I took it in for a checkup right before the warranty expired.

The morality police on full display. People admonishing and condescendingly lecturing a middle class woman who asked a hypothetical about the possibility of using the warranty as a means of preventative maintenance for an item that costs thousand upon thousands of dollars.

Mind you (I don't know her, so I am being a bit presumptuous), this is a woman who spent a lifetime as an RN caring for the health of others. More than likely she has (had) income as opposed to wealth, so was never able to manipulate the tax code to sca..errr... wiggle her way out of paying taxes, so these watches probably constituted a significant investment for her.

Yet, she is called a scammer for one rogue sentence when it was obvious that she was asking if it's worth (and OK) sending in a watch for a final checkup before she is liable for expensive repairs. She could have just as easily said that her watch is not running exactly the way it was the day she bought it, which is almost always universally true.

Kudos to the members who respectfully answered her request for advice.

Should We Send to RSC Right Before 5 Yr Warranty Up for a Check Up?

Thank you Aaron. I guess I should have worded my question better. BTW, you nailed my financial situation. Just someone who worked hard, taking care of terminally ill Cancer patients, and has an unnatural love for mechanical watches. I’m selling off most of my Seikos, so I can get one more Rolex. BTW, my new Ridgeline is running well, but I can hear a weird noise, when I first accelerate, coming from one of the front tire areas. Should I take it in for a check up?
True, BTW.
