Daytone - Nice But Mebe a Tad Impractical and Feels Agricultural

Got me a Daytona and am now enjoying it. Initially I didn't bond with it, but now love it.

I wonder how many peeps actually regularly time stuff with it.

I often use my YM rotating bezel to time things while cooking - but can't be fussed doing so with the Daytona, too much mucking about coupled with unreadable sub dials (I'm old).

I was also quite surprised as to how stiff and agricultural the pushers felt - this is my first automatic chronograph - how does the Daytona feel compared to a Speedy and such like?

As I say, nice watch.

Why do people assume that just because a watch has all sorts of features that you have to use them? I own all sorts of watches including a Daytona and I didn’t buy them to use the buttons or bezels they have. I bought them because I like them and I only need them to tell the time. Sometimes, RARELY I use the features, I use my phone or other tools that are better depending on what I am doing. This whole tool watch BS is annoying, wear the watch and use it to tell the time!

Touché fam, my point entirely.

Never dived with my sub, I have failed to go yachting with my 'master and never change time zone on my GMT.

As for the Daytona I find it a semi-useless timing device. The bezel on simpler watches or gut feel worked well in the past. I got it because I liked the look and the fact it "could" but I probably "wouldn't".

However I am curious if we're in the majority - probably - or the minority.

I was only two of those those things before luncheon, but now it's post and I've quaffed a bucket of gewurztraminer it's a different two. Or is it four because my vision has blurred.

Given the releases over the last few years it wouldn't surprise me.

Quite like the John Deer colour way, mebe not on a watch. Imagine if Rolex did all those LE's other folks did, it'd be mental. They'd be selling like hot cakes.

Maybe post some photos showing the agricultural watch. Then again I’m guessing you could just get a stock photo from online

I think this is the way to go. John Deer is much better name.

To my original point, for those who own a Daytona and another chronograph, such as a speedy, how does the operation feel, similar? Daytona feels quite stiff, i was suprised. Genuinely interested to know.

I’d say they feel pretty similar. I’ve had many Daytonas and now have a 3861 Speedy. Actually prefer the Speedy for being able to better read the time and chrono hands.

Own many chronographs from Omega, Breitling, etc.. and my Daytona push buttons are at the top of the list on crispness and actuation. I would rank the push button feel extremely high quality and precise. If I am using my chronograph often, I will leave them unscrewed for the day or so. The watch is perfectly watertight with the pushers left unscrewed.

Not sure what an agricultural watch is, but I do think the pushers are silly. Doesn’t stop me liking them :)

I’ve got Daytonas I’ve never even unscrewed the pushers on :)

I have several chronographs and my memory of the Daytona is that aside from having screw down pushers (really limits quick use) the pusher feel is not bad. I recently wore my Speedmaster 57 Ltd reissue and the pushers felt as bad as my Breitling B09. Patek 5960 feels much better, maybe seek out one of those.

Limited edition “John Deere”. Also fits into the dashboard as an hour meter too. Watch comes with the tractor.

Nice Daytona. I think the feel of the pushers feel stiffer on the Omega Speedmaster. Daytona has vertical clutch/column wheel and most watches with this setup feel stiff. If you want smooth feel then look at higher end stuff with horizontal clutch like Lange, Patek manual wind chronos.
