Questions on Annual Calendars 5036 / 5146

I have always been a watch nut, and I am looking to add a couple watches.

My “next” watch will be a Rolex Milgauss white, within the next couple months as soon as my “watch guy” finds a good one.

In hunting around though, I discovered I want a gold watch. My only gold watch really is a champagne 70s Breitling valjoux panda chrono. Anyway, in hunting around I came across a 5146 in yellow gold with a matching yellow bracelet. I sent a link to my GF and said “I sure wish I hadn’t seen this…”. I knew I just had to have a gold PP annual.

I tried various yellow gold watches at the luxury places and yellow just doesn’t do it for me, with the possible exception of a yellow gold Cartier Panther, and they are too small. (I know they are coming out with a large this fall but I’d prefer a PP annual). I found to my surprise that my skin tone goes better with JLC rose.

The color of PP rose gold looks very similar to JLC to me from looking on the net. It doesn’t appear to be too pink, more of a toned down yellow. So I think I have narrowed my search down to a rose PP annual with a rose bracelet. No one seems to like bracelets, but I do — I’ve never been one to care what others think! At any rate, am I right in my assumption that PP rose is not very pinkish?

Next, I am curious what have people’s experiences been with the 5036? Is there a good reason to get a 5146 instead? I like the 37mm size of the 5036 better, I think. I also like the very unusual lume on the Roman numerals. 5036 seems like the winner unless others have stories that should dissuade me. Please share…

Finally, I am curious about whether wearing one as a primary watch is a really bad idea? I have been wearing a stainless Seamaster, and it has a few light scratches, nothing big. However, I think I am not the most careful wearer in the world. I found the answer to my question about whether it would attract a lot of unwelcome attention. I’m happy to hear that no one will notice what it is. I don’t want to get mugged. As a result, my bigger concern is whether I can expect serious wear that will detract from value and enjoyment?

For reference, my collection is: stainless Seamaster; stainless Tank Francaise; original Captain Willard; 70s valjoux Breitling; black Luminox auto; soon to be Milgauss; and a few beater Seiko turtles and Ecodrives.
