Howdy from Northern Virginia
Hi all - this looks like a fun forum, I'm glad I stopped by.
Quick background: I have been fascinated by all things horological for over 30 years. Grew up in England and my father was a huge influence in my love of timepieces as he had over 40 long cases (grandfather clocks). Got my first Rolex in 1993, steel oyster DateJust. My wife "stole" it on our honeymoon and it has been her everyday watch ever since. Over the past 5 years I have tended down the small niche Swiss houses (e.g. De Bethune, Jaquet Droz) as well as more mainstream IWC. I am just "rediscovering" Rolex after all these years!! I plan on acquiring several pieces over the coming months and I look forward to learning more about the brand here. This will not be hard, as I am coming from a very low starting base :) I will, at some point, take some good pictures of some of my favourite watches. However, I want to warn you in advance that my photography is, in a word, crap. In the interim, you are stuck with my cat Thomas as my aviator. Best regards from Virginia, Nick njo2002 |

Hi Nick
Awesome to have you on board! Well it sounds like you have been around the block a few times, with the watches you have had. Don't worry on the quality of your photos, just any photo is fine. Seems like you are one of many that start out with a Rolex and go full circle back to Rolex What model/s of Rolex are you considering? Regards |

Hi Steve - thanks for the warm welcome. Right now, I think I may start with a two-tone GMT Master II (16713). I know I'll do the oyster band, have not picked a dial yet. I think a 16520 Daytona will follow that.
You are right about going "full circle". I have come to really appreciate my '93 DateJust. Even more now I've owned pieces at 20X the cost. It has been a wonderful watch that has caused me zero trouble, except for the time in 2001 when I dropped it from a 4th story balcony. We did have words, but nothing the Service Center couldn't fix... Warm regards, Nick |

Dropping your watch from the 4th floor balcony, don't go making that a habbit
I don't know whether you are familiar with the new TT GMTII released this year by Rolex, it does have some new features, which you may like to consider, such as the new movement, ceramic bezel insert and maxi dial, with a triple lock crown and beefier case. Hard to go wrong with any Rolex really, and the popularity of the Daytona speaks for itself (but I do love to have a date feature). |

Hello, Nick. Welcome to our merry madhouse. Glad you found us. Do stick around and join the fun.
And please keep us posted on your hunt for more Rolexes. We're always excited by anyone's new acquisitions. BTW, where in NOVA are you? I'm on the other side of the river in Rockville, but my office is at 1100 New York (the old Greyhound terminal, if you remember it).

Hi Rockrolex, I'm way West in Northern Virginia in Middleburg, VA. It's horse country and I love it. My corporate office is in Herndon, VA but I try to "work from home" as much as I can :)
