3738 Golden Ellipse fans?
Just wondering...how many Golden Ellipse fans do we have here at TRF? I've been smitten by the 3738r for many years now, but they seem to be rare both in the shops as well as within the internet community...at the Tiffany shop, the AD reported "very low demand" for this model.
Thoughts? |

Very low demand. Poor resale. If you like it get one. I would just buy this model pre owned

I find the Golden Ellipse line very nice and think they make incredibly nice dress watches, their thin cases are very elegant. The only problem I can see with this watch if I put myself in the shoes of regular Patek customers is that those watches are really small (31,1mm x 35,6mm), nowadays it's not something a lot of men like to wear (ironically, I find those very small watches very, very nice and would love to own one but my tastes are very different from the average man's).
Like C said, the resale will most probably be very poor due to this (if you ask me, though I could be wrong) but at least it's good news if you are interested in buying a pre-owned model. Again, I would gladly buy one myself if I had the money but it would definitely be pre-owned and I know I'd probably be one of the few that would enjoy such a small size watch on my wrist, the good thing is that at least it will look very unique.

Not a fan myself but taste is subjective.

Caliber 240
Let's not forget that the Elipse also houses Patek's caliber 240, arguably one of the finest thin automatic movements ever produced.
I don't own one but I still can appreciate its conservative good looks. The very fact that this model has remained in the Patek lineup and relatively unchanged for so many years (decades?) suggests that it does have some following despite what you've been told. |
