And a corollary: If it can't be fixed with duct tape, you probably don't need it anyway.

You can tell a lot about a man by the happiness of his wife and the respect given to him by his children.

"A sick man has few problems"

Sorry Grady if you didn't get this quote. It made sense to me at the time because I was suffering from extreme back pain at the time, and I had basically shut down my life to deal with the back problems - hence most of my many trivial daily problems in life went away and I was left with only one. It was a big problem (terrible immobilizing back pain), but it was only one.

I kept thinking along the lines of how often illness or injury can exacerbate many problems and create some new ones, depending on the seriousness of the condition.

I was also thinking about what perspective would lead a boss to make that statement to an employee.

I guess it all depends of the situation of each individual.

In my own case, illness and injury have presented me with some of my most difficult challenges, but they have also lead to some of my greatest opportunities.

Thanks for the insight.

People who wear Mickey Mouse watches are usually fun to be around.

(I wore a Mickey Mouse watch on duty for years and years. It got many a laugh and caused a lot of people to smile when normally they wouldn't have... as in when I was handing them a speeding ticket!)

This is for all my fellow TRF's who take to two wheels in the summer. I cringe when I see motorcyclists without helmets, wearing sneakers and even flip flops. I've seen way too many crashes and picked up my fair share of body parts at accident scenes involving motorcycles. I do not have a bike at this time but will again some day I'm sure, anyway ladies and gentelmen... DRESS FOR THE CRASH, NOT THR RIDE!

"ATGATT." (All the gear, all the time. Tough to do when it's 108 degrees, but I never ride without a full-face helmet.)

Agree Joey, if it's too hot for the gear then it's too hot to ride.

It is amazing how long you can keep a bike up with boots, even with a flat front tire.

"Better the cows hide than yours!"

Many years ago I worked at a motorcycle shop. I would be asked constantly, "What is your cheapest helmet"? At the time we did have $10 helmets. I would tell them, "If you have a $10 head, get a $10 helmet"!

One of my favorites in a meeting or with friends is taken from a book by W.E.B. Griffen. "That sounds like the night soil of a very large and well fed male ox!"

I check that every helmet I buy has the DOT on it and/or SNELL. They do the testing.
I keep my full face locked to the sissy bar during the hot weather. I use it at night (bugs) and in rain (needles). On clear days I wear the open helmet.

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.

As you like it.

I think the whole monologue is worthy of note:
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,

His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail

Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,

Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,

With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon,

With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes

And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

--William Shakespeare
