So how many watches do you have to set today? (tips inside)
I only have a few to do but this is what I do to make sure that the watches gears remains safe. As you may already know, mechanical watch manufacturers recommend not setting the date on your watch, via quicksetting date mechanism, between 9pm and 3am, this is super safe, but I stick with it. Now a days many watch companies dont even put this info into the manuals as its okay to set at those times with SOME watches, not all.
What I do is simple, change the time to 6:00 am or pm, doesnt matter. I set the date to the 31st then move minute hand around until the date changes to the 1st. I could just change it to the 1st, but I have always done it this way. With the GMT2 you have no choice but to jump the hour hand until it is on the correct date. One thing great about the 3185 movement in the GMT2 is that its foolproof, you can't mess up the mechanism even if you tried since its not a quick set. I hope this helps. |

I set all mine ahead to the 31st this evening and will let the two on the winder change there. The one on my wrist I haven't changed, will do so in the morning and set it to time.gov.

I had to do FIVE in all - my 2 Rollies, Zemina's YM as well as an old quartz TITAN she has for occasional 'rough' use and my daughter's watch.

Thanks for the heads up, Roger I always thought it was between 10pm and 2am, but better safe than sorry, right My Omega won't allow the date to be moved between 10p and 2a and I won't bother setting the Tutima until I wear it again

Isn't it easiest/safest to change the date in the morning? like 10am or whanever you remember? - all this talk about damaging movements between hours this and that makes me nervous, so I never even think about it until 'the morning after'

I have only changed my GMT because that's the one I'm wearing today. And I did that this morning at 6:50 AM. The Breitling is perpetual except for leap years so that changed itself. I won't have to worry about that one for another two years.
So I still have 2 DJs, 2 DDs, a JLC, a GP, and and Oris to change. I'll probably wait till this weekend when I can make the switch and reset them all. All my quartz Casios are perpetual so I don't worry about them at all.

the reason why I say set it to 6 oclock is because if you do it at 10am, you have to make sure it is AM and not PM (the no no time is 10pm is when the date mechanism is engaged waiting for midnight) Just better to be safe than sorry, |

I just did two today. My Sub and my BM. I'll do my others when I wear them. My severe use digitals do it all by themselves.
