Only AD's can get replacement Rolex dials

Hey guys is it true only AD's can get new or replacement dials for a Rolex ? I just got my vintage TTDJ back from my watch guy and was very disapointed when he told me he was sorry I didn't like the dial he had for my watch. I asked why he hadn't been able to get me the white and romans... he told me only AD's could get them and even tho he was an authorized repair he could not. He continued to tell me that I probably would not be able to get a new from Rolex dial since the current dial was not a Rolex item but after market.

What do you guys think?
a.) Can I get the white dial with romans from Rolex? (like Ed's and Roger's)

b.) Will a AD take it in and replace a non Rolex dial with a real one?

c.) Get one off ebay and give it back to my watch guy?

The one here with the printed Romans (Champagne) is the most beautiful dial I have ever seen. I am afraid that you will have better luck going around to watchmakers to see if they have one. Rolex no longer has any last time I checked. :(

Ok I could be wrong but were the raised romans avail on the vintage (aka Acrylic crystal) DJs? I was under the assumption that the one my dad has is the "roman dial"

Again this is a Sapphire crystal model, and I thought Earl was asking about Vintage acrylic models.

Someone with more knowledge than me please verify. I have not seen one with raised romans before.

You know it's possible that they (Rolex) don't make the dial I'm talking about for the Acrylic...... :o( but, even so I'll be happy getting it back to being complete original !

There's a guy at MOTAT - he's the head of Trams Section - wears the exact same watch. One of our finance controllers wears a DJ 16234 with WG bezel on Jubilee bracelet. So that makes 3 of us at MOTAT with Rollies.

Cheers - JJ

Anyone else here thinks MOTAT pays their staff too much?

Earl, I'm surprised your watchmaker was told replacement dials are only available to ADs. He's either got a bad connection for stock, or it's the draconian RUSA rearing its ugly head yet again.

I'm sure the dial is available as NOS parts. But keep in mind, RUSA won't supply a dial to a watch that that dial is spec'ed for. Bastids that they are.

I'd try a different watchmaker, or you may want to try north of the border, since Rolex Canada is more liberal in their dial swapping policies. BTW, this guy may be able to help you:

www.darlor-watch.com

He's a Canadian watchmaker. I don't know anything about him, but he refurbishes a LOT of vintage Rolex and must have some good connections to get his hands on all that NOS.

Would you believe all these 3 are senior members, mortgage and absolutely debt free?
