really nice beater
I had one of those moments today when I put my AP on, that this might be the only watch I need as I wear it 90% of the week, it is waterproof enough for my needs and it is a pure classic from one of the "big 3" watch makers (Big 4 if you count Lange) I am basically moving that much closer to being a one watch guy...... I still need a casual watch..
Bringing up the rear are a Rolex 114060 just purchased in April, and a PAM 000 which I have been putting off selling. But I am not sure if $7500 worth of watch makes sense just lying there waiting for weekend/vacation use. If I were to get rid of both, I would still need a watch that can stand some abuse and still look good. Price range would be $1800 max. No Tudor's need apply. Thoughts on what is out there? |

Pre-owned Omega?
Pre-co-axial would probably squeak in there. 1861 movement speed master would probably make it too. Tag Heuer if you want to go there... |

I am in the same boat as you since purchasing my 15400. In fact, I sold my only Rolex for it, and it is currently my only watch. I too would like a watch for weekend wear.
What about a Seiko diver? Quality for under $200 off Amazon. Could also go for a Longines Legend Diver for under $2k.

Thinking Longines. Also like Doxa as well. Speedy Pro is a possibility as well although outside my price range. Worry about the water resistance if I swim with it.....

You could get a Speedmaster Racing Co-Axial. While these are still over your budget (same range as a Speedy), but they have a date and much higher WR.

I like Doxa a lot but the originals are quite pricey. New ones pre-owned could be a cool option. Seiko for sure makes the price cut but I assumed you wanted to be close to the mark price-wise. Seikos are pretty much bulletproof. |

I have as my 2 main watches, the AP diver and my beloved Exp 2 Polar. The Polar is a watch I will not part with. Love it!
My beater is a really nice Tag AR Calibre 5 500M Ceramic diver. Recommend the Tag. But those 2 above are what makes me happy. |

A great beater would be the wave dial Seamaster 300M from the 90s, Bond wore one.

Kind of stuck on these when it isn't the DJ or DSSD.
Or And you can have both for right at about $1800. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have been looking at the longines legend diver and the Nomos tagente in that price range. I have been trying to try them on since I heard the legend diver wears rather large due to long lugs. The Nomos I've heard wears big for a 35mm due to the thin bezel. I have a 38mm watch with a thin bezel and wears a larger than some of my 40mm watches.

I was going to suggest a Grand Seiko quartz (SBGT037 or SBGV007), but I get the impression you're looking for a watch that it won't matter if you knock it against something more often than not.
As you like PAMs, then how about something in a similar vein? – http://www.azfinetime.com/citizen-si...ic-nb1031-53l/ |

How about a Grovana for <$600.
42mm, ETA and a solid bracelet.

I just sold a nice blue dial Tag for $1200 and that makes my 14060M my beater. It's perfect!
Since you have a 114060 already I say use that, maybe even on Nato, as a beater. You will be bored quickly with a much cheaper watch if you are used to the ones you have. |

I guess what i meant there is that it's hard to have a real "beater" when you are a watch lover. You can have a real cheapie and still find yourself being careful not to damage it. I had a titanium Seiko as a beater for a while. Great watch. It only owed me $200 but I still took care when walking through doorways and lifting things and working. I don't treat my ND Sub any differently as a beater now and am still happy to be wearing a Rolex every day. Nato straps are great for working in because they're so cheap, light and comfortable too.

My definition of a beater has changed and in reality I'm not nearly as hard on my watches as I think I am. And as I've moved up the ladder I've found it harder and harder to wear my non-grails. I think a Tag Aquaracer, Seamaster, or even Sinn all give you a nice combination of a durable watch with a great WR rating that isn't so "cheap" that you'll never wear it. If you go Quartz your options really open up but you may not like wearing it as much.

I second Sinn. They are seriously bad ass true tool watches.
Torn between modern diver or vintage chrono but either way you can't go wrong. Way under-priced for the quality and engineering that goes into them. |

If you sold them and then changed your mind further down the line it will end up costing you even more money. Unless you need that money stick with what you have and enjoy them when you want.
Failing that have you looked at Oris?

I would agree that you should not sell the Rolex. You'll eventually want one back. I got a used Deep Blue for $300 for the pool/beach/working around the yard. It's a solid beater and looks nice. Rarely wear it but when I do i like it. Otherwise I go back and forth between the Rolex and PAM.
