Rolex DEEPSEA Owners- what did you pay and where did you get it?

Hi, I am contemplating the purchase of my first Rolex and I want it to be the DEEPSEA . I have never directly purchased a watch of that caliber before- in the past they were gifted to me by my dad (everytime he gets a new one, I get his old one). Now, I'm a little older, and a bit more financially secure to finally purchase my first luxury watch. I'm just not sure what the right approach would be.

Where do most of you shop for watches? Do you buy them new, or 'like new' from a place like watchnet? Also, what should I be willing to pay? MSRP or a slight Premium at this point?

Also, I know there are several different versions of this watch available.... V and M if I'm not mistaken? What are the differences between them?

Two more:
Has this watch already reached its end of life? Meaning, it's no longer being produced.

And finally, how well would a watch like this hold its value? If we're talking about continuous (although, careful) everyday wear. Would you rank it as a watch that maintains value better than most? As in, one of the best watches that maintains value in today's market?

You seem to be confusing the 16600 with the DEEPSEA or the DSSD. I suggest you read up on both watches first before deciding to buy.

The ForSale section here is excellent if you do your homework ...but sounds like you got to do your homework first ....

there is no difference between the M series and the V series..except when the deepsea was first introduced it was the M series that is 2008 and the V series is the latest which is 2009.since the watch is only 1.5 yrs old so its very new.. so it didnt quite reached its end life..if u get on ur hands on M series model it should be cheaper than the V series model..but u can always check DAVIDSW in the sales section he has a lot of various Rolex collection at very good price including the deepsea

good luck

In theory since the M was the true first release, shouldnt it hold its value a lot better than the V? If that's the case, wouldn't I be better of getting the M- if I want to buy something that will maintain its value post purchase?

You could also make the argument that since an M series is older than a V that the M has depriciated more. Don't worry about which year the DSSD was made and instead concentrate on getting the best deal possible. Remember, you're buying a watch to wear and enjoy - not as an investment.

zontik, welcome to TRF! This is a great resource to do a some research. Take some time to poke around the forums and reference library. I think you will find a lot of useful information that will help you make a decision.

Yazan has a good suggestion as well, and one I can vouche for personally. When you make a decision and are ready to purchase, contact DavidSW here on TRF. He found a DSSD (V serial) for me, just in time for Christmas, but can find just what you are looking for as well.

Good luck in your quest!
