My first Rolex..a story
Well it's official. Surreal. I'm a Rolex owner and alittle uneasy about the whole deal. (Always someone who thinks twice before doing.) I mean I waited nearly 12 years looking, trying on, visiting ADs, convincing myself (my wife use to sell them and tried to get me to buy much earlier) but I never felt I was ready. I know that may not make sense to everyone and perhaps just doesn't make sense. Here is my story.
Woke up on Dec 24th and had to pick up some last minute "stuff". My older brother was in town. Like me, he has been someone who enjoys Rolexes but timing hasn't been right. We finish early and I get this wild idea to stop by an AD. A place I know well. He and I start to talk about all the watches and walk into a busy place. 1 sales person in the Rolex department and 5 customers. We simply survey the cases. I see the one I've had my eye on for 12 years. No kidding at all. They never, ever, have this one in. Ever. I've been there 100s of times; always trying on. You know the guy. So my brother and I have them pull 5 out. All TT's from yachtmaster, GMT II, the new designed Sub (blue ceramic), daytona, and the sub serti slate face. The sales rep knows me and is perhaps a bit annoyed I'm, again, wasting his time. Same questions, same routine, but today is different. I've got butterflies and my checkbook. Ok... so I've had that both before. But today is different. See the voice of reason is with me; the brother. I try all of them on 8 times. 2 other customer's come in and purchase within 15mins. Both for their husbands, both picked "the one" out of a hat. The sales person is trying hard to stay pleasant and I give the "thanks, I just need to think about it a bit." He smiles and laughs as he knows the routine. I walk out to the truck with brother 3 steps behind. We get in and he says, how long are you going to do this? He knows the goals I set that would help justify the purchase and they'll all been accomplished. He then starts to talk about craftsmanship, work of art, accomplishment, investment, and more. So I call the wife. She says don't waste my time, again. I'm too busy with holiday stuff to listen to you waiver, "get a spine." What, I say? Well are you serious about the watch. I said, today, is the day. She says I'll call the store and speak with the AD owner. (A friend of ours). I sit in the car with my brother, both of us, back to being giddy kids---thinking about purchasing a Rolex. Phone rings, wife says it is all done----go back in and the price is set. I walk back in---they know I've been sitting in my truck. They have the watch all set to go and warranty card filled out. I take out the checkbook and barely scratch the numbers in. I leave with multiple handshakes, sweaty palms, and a Rolex. It's incredible. Magnificent. Here it is: Merry Christmas to all. Pict.jpg pict8.jpg pict3.jpg pict9.jpg pict7.jpg |

Wow, that's awesome.
I wish I had a story like that to tell. Thanks for sharing. You have a great family. Yes, it is real, might be surreal, but it is real

You sound like me. I go to every AD I see and drool on the case and then ask to look at one or two watches and in the end I say thanks I need to think about it a bit.
I turn 40 next month and I decided that will be my birthday gift to myself. I have narrowed it down to a Yacht Master two tone and will probably have a blue face. One guy in the UK has one listed on this website for a reasonable price but he is looking for a local buyer and I am looking to feel it in my hand before buying. |

Cool story, and a great wife to help you realize your grail. This will be a Christmas to remember and not soon forgotten. Enjoy that beauty! There has not been a better feeling than when I handed over the most money ever to obtain a watch. Enjoy it, don't get buyers remorse and wear it in good health.
