The new bracelets and clasps.
After viewing the photos from Aspirin's thread, "New Explorer 1 39mm pics for share" from the General Discussion forum, an idea has been growing in my head. I like the new Oysterlock with Easylink clasp and I'm pretty sure I could install one on my 36mm Explorer. It would be a fairly inexpensive way to personalize my watch. Though I'm fairly certain the entire bracelet won't fit, it does seem possible to simply replace the clasp; just remove the new clasp with one link on each end and install it onto the old bracelet. However, I do have some concerns. I noticed from the photographs that the center links are solid and not hollow. This may be a problem with the new links actually fitting properly onto the old.
Aspirin's thread: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=143545 This is something I'm seriously considering, but my problem is finding the new bracelet or clasp. 1. Does any here know where or how I could purchase a new bracelet for the new 39mm Explorer? 2. What is the average cost of a new bracelet? I would also appreciate any advice on whether or not this procedure could be done. |

I'm pretty sure that almost all clasps are interchangeable with few exceptions...
There is no source for the new clasps except through a Dealer who may, or may not sell you one.. The new SS bracelets seem to average about 1,000 to 1,500 bucks, depending on the one you choose.. I have not been able to get ahold of even the GMT IIc bracelet yet though so good luck on your quest..

Thanks for the info. I didn't think the bracelets cost that much. Looks like I'll just have to keep an eye out for a while.

I called RSC Toronto yesterday with that exact question and they said they would not sell my just the new clasp. In fact, they said they would not install a new bracelet on my older explorer I. Maybe an AD can order it for you. Let me know if you find out any info as I would like to do the same modification.

$1500-$2200 for the bracelet depending on the model.
