Really? Some Americans do things I disagree with, but it wouldn't make me ashamed to be American and especially not ashamed to be residing in Texas.

I know some of you guys are soccer fans, but I think it's fairly boring.

The article seems like the Brits are trying to un kiss the Fifa execs butt!

Let them go to Russia, and never invite them back!

The Dorchester is a great hotel. I have stayed there a few times and it is in my short list of London hotels. Personally, I prefer the Savoy's location and view but I suspect the Dorchester is a bit more posh.

There is no reason to continue an expensive full court press of these apparently spoiled officials if they have made their decison. Maybe Russsia will pick up their tab in London.

i think he is right. Firstly i am I am scottish so have no love for english sporting anything as they are so overhyped. ! Englands bid was not wonderful yet it was made clear they suffered for non footballing reasons.
FIFA is a very corrupt organistion. imagine slating the UK press for uncovering there criminal behaviour, just shows you what an incompetent autocracy it is.

well done Boris

I cannot say it was well done Boris; very much a bad loser from every angle.

Russia is one of the most corrupt nations on the planet but i could see a viable excuse for them getting the world cup, but Qatar is just a joke. What the spectators will do in temps up to 40-50 degrees will be interesting to say the least.

How is it a sore loser? I think Boris had a job well done on this. England have already wasted £15 million, why should we foot anymore when we know the FIFA boys are "corrupted"....

Well done!

Why because he is not a slimy autocrat who panders to everyones wishes? FIFA tried to embarass and blame England for there own failings and corruption.

Never be ashamed to be British. They brought much of the world a free press, a legal system and an education system. Go to any country in the world and you will find the British, not just visiting but part of the fabric. When you feel weak think of the Maga Carta.

Yes the free press, exactly what FIFA are grudging England for, thay have exposed FIFA's corruption and nepartism. The time for niceties was over when FIFA Lambasted England for uncovering it. The English Bidders even tried to apologise for the press to try and save the bid. Is that we people we want doing this stuff? snivelling little civil servants scared to do something right?

Let me also add unofficially FIFA have a grudge England because of all the money in the premier league and many of the best players go there. All down to TV money.
I must reiterate that i take enjoymnet of England getting thumped in all sports as it means i dont have to listen to the moronic sports media drone on and on about how wonderful they are when in fact they are average at everything! (except Lewis Hamilton; and Andy Murray is Scottish)
Another knighthood for winning the ashes - a cricket macth played between England and Australia- might be coming up! it is played every second year between the same 2 teams and in 2005 all the England players got a knighthood or MBE from the Queen ( cant remember which but its a high honour bestowed on the best people in the country for great service)!!! talk about an over exaggeration of the acheivement!!

P.S i love the ashes though;)

Englands bid was not perfect at all but the one from USA was a great one but no... it goes to Russia and Qatar

OK residing in the UK wouldn't be good for some, but hey not being proud of where you are born is a bit much I think. You said you are British meaning you could be English, Welsh or Scottish which some folks here have got wrong as they assume you are English.

Sport? Well there's far too much of it these days and heaven knows we see enough of it on the TV here in Australia. The money going into sport would be better spent financing things for our infrastructure and wellbeing. Some of these sporting personalites think they are Gods.

Media overkill is alive and well here as well.

End of rant.

Seems OK to me, being American I can only say that FIFA seems very corrupt. It gives OFFICIALS from third world countries the rite to be wined and dined all over the world by Legitimate nations wanting to host the cup. But hey the IOC is just as bad. Also It seems he had a gentlemans agreement with some of these guys and they played him false. I would not let them stay in MY hotel either. It's good to be the boss sometimes! Why should they get free hotel for the Olympics? They are a footballing organisation, albeit corrupt.

It does beg the question though, who else, that have no connection with the Olympics, is the British taxpayer funding to live a luxury lifestyle in top rated London hotels while the games takes place?

You could test your assumption Steve:

Asks a Scot or a Welshman their Nationality.

If they say 'British' then you would be correct.
