Worlds Most Expensive Rolex

I wonder if a forum member owns this? From The Most Expensive Journal: Rolex, according to BusinessWeek, is one of the world’s 100 most valuable brands. The Swiss company’s timepieces are almost synonymous with wealth and status, but Rolex is curiously absent from the list of the world’s top ten most expensive watches. That’s why we’ve decided to let you know about the most expensive Rolex watches in the world.

The most expensive Rolex ever sold at auction was a “Paul Newman” Rolex Oyster Cosmograph “Daytona” sold at a Sotheby’s event in June, 2003. This prototype wristwatch, featuring a red dial and black sub-dials, was produced in 1979. It sold for £210,000—around US $350,000.

Rumors persist regarding a Rolex sold at Selfridges in London for a fantastic price of £8 million—over US $15 million—but they seem to be rumors only.

Actually--a tropical 6240 RCO Daytona PN sold for roughly $450k this year. FYI

That's an interesting piece - I think it has cropped up a couple of times, but I don't think a TRF member owns it. Furthermore, its title as the world's most expensive Rolex was taken by the GMT Ice - a diamond encrusted white gold piece, launched a couple of years ago. That retailed for £250000

8 million for a Rolex...? Not sure about that one.

Would any watch cost that? Apart from Patek Buying back their own pieces at auctions for various reasons.

haha! co-sign. all those diamonds on a rolex or any watch devalues its true original value. which is the sweetest trait of a watch.

Unfortunatly it is, as common Rolex are becomming more and more bling, when the update their models

I think it is funny that the watch just has a plain crown, with no diamonds

Thanks for the update on the Tropical Daytona.

I agree with some of the other posters that the watches covered in diamonds are not representative of the value of the watch. Almost all of the price is in the diamonds. The Daytona's at $350k and 470k are still worth more based on the actual watch value.

And far nicer. The RCO's -either in 6240 or 6263 are so rare. I know of only 4 of them in the world including one that sold last week. I have a friend who is lucky enough to be one of those few people!!

I think I remember from the vintage forum (maybe Jedly?) that there are 3 real ones

On most expensive Rolex, didn't Clapton's Albino Daytona go for ~$500k?

Exactly how are you going to use the GMT function on that? Doesn't look like much of a tool to me.

I don't mind diamond Rolexes in general, but when they put a lot of ice on the sports models it just seems wrong to me. Ice and a submariner or GMT don't match. IMHO.. The sports watches are supposed to be practical if you see what I mean.
