I guess I'm not a Curmudgeon. I'd rather have the new Lexus LFA for that price.

There were approx. 850-1,000 cars produced (nobody knows the exact #'s) and the ones for sale averages between 20-60K.

Over half a million US for that car ??? Must be a typo or someone is trying to pull a money laundering stunt somewhere .
Not saying you going to pick up a 250 Testa Rossa for that money but surely you'd get something else for that amount .

The engine that NASCAR banned was the Ford FE 427 SOHC.

$500k for a Mustang that doesn't say SHELBY.... Whoop-De-Doo

I'm not trying to justify the man's asking price; but I'm just saying it's not a typical Mustang. But 859 or so production cars for any Mustang year is low, so it is more rare.

I also wasn't refering to any engine Nascar banned; but when Ford halted production.

Low mileage examples can bring crazy money. Restorations can also top the car's value. Survivors can bring in even more because of originality.

Then again, having an outrageous price on ebay is a great advertisement. It might start off some serious negotiations.

The price is pretty crazy but to have everything original on the car is extremely rare. True collectors of muscle cars will be salivating over this car.

You got kicked in the family jewels by it , Mon ? 512TR ? too wide them , that is OK for the USA roads and parking places , not in old europe . Surely it will have lost 70 BHP when they had to convert it to unleaded coming in the US ?

Don't see the money at all in it, there are euro classic exotics of much fewer numbers and far greater beauty under that price but I guess if you like American cars its not bad.

I can believe that Eddie but the car you refer to had maybe a racing pedigree , the one on Ebay is a stock version " safe queen " . I can imagine had it won some races with well known drivers .. OK . This is a clean sold over the counter car . I would be surprised it'll fetch that kind of money .. but we have seen stranger things .

Well considering there were only 858 of these cars ever built it makes it extremely rare especially with all original parts. Original is the key here. This also has the S engine which was only put in the first 279 cars. A few years ago another Boss sold for 350,000 with less original parts. For muscle car collectors this is a true find. There is a lot of history surrounding this model.

The origin of the Boss 429 comes about as a result of NASCAR. Ford was seeking to develop a Hemi engine that could compete with the famed 426 Hemi from Chrysler in NASCAR's Grand National Division. NASCAR's rules required that at least 500 cars be fitted with this motor and sold to the general public. After much consideration, it was decided by Ford that the Mustang would be the car that would house this new engine.

And these cars had a ton of power. These cars were rated conservatively at 375 hp (280 kW) and 450 lb·ft (610 N·m) of torque. Actual output was well over 500 horsepower (370 kW). The manufacturers and dealers only listed 375 hp (280 kW) because of legal issues and rising insurance costs.

I understand that it is rare to find that type of car that clean and original . The rules of 500 pieces is somehow similar with the european rally cars back a few years ago . A prime example was when Lancia came out with the Stratos HF and had to produce also about 500 units . Most were just dispatched to dealerships without being sold only to meet the requirements .. which we'd bought one afterall
