My friend is ready to buy one, loves the looks, the feel and its well below his budget. We have seen some nice used examples (never knew how many there were around the Toronto area) and he is ready to buy.

If you have owned one or currently own one could you give us a small review.

Nothing wrong with the Airking,just because its movement is not COSC tested.The date model is the most desirable if you can find one,but both
model are fine watches with bullet proof movements.

The Air-King has always been the start-up model in the Rolex Oyster line-up; but at just 34 mm, may not be everyone's cuppa.

If it's a no-date Rolex you're looking for, then the Explorer 1 (at 36 mm) is an absolute cracker in aesthetic and symmetrical beauty.

A good friend of mine has a mid-70s era Air King Date and in the summer of 2004 it had it's first 'Rolex' service. It had been serviced sometime in the late 70s by Birk's Jewellers, but that doesn't count, right?

In any event, before the service the watch had been just a couple of seconds out of COSC specs, and has been everywhere with this guy. Motorcycling all over Ontario, camping, job interviews, and then down to Mexico where my buddy lives where it's been surfing and swimming in the Caribbean more times than I've had hot dinners.

The service he had last year replaced the crystal (acrylic and just scratched... it was time) replaced the seals, new caseback (at my buddy's request) an overhaul of the movement and a factory polish of the bracelet and case. The watch looks and runs like BNIB perfect for CDN$800 total.

In short, the Air King (or AKD) is a great buy and a great sport/dress watch. Can't go wrong.
