Hi From Kentucky
I just thought it was time to learn a bit more about Rolex.
I had purchased a Rolex when I was 18yo A SS Sub Model 5512 I have wore it for the last 40+ years with no problems. Well untill I went swimming with the stem not all the way in. Causing some problems. After a repair job I sold it. But felt like I lost my best friend. So I just bought a 16610 and also a 16600. And seem to be bitten by the collector bug.I have been reading as much as I can , and am kinda sorry I got rid of the old sub. Anyway Ill be learning as much from you all and maybe even buying another sub or sd. |

Welcome to TRF
The 5512 was the COSC rated Sub as far as I remember. Cool watch, and a true classic. A pity you sold it. It is worth a LOT today, but I know that money is not everything in this world. Enjoy your Sub Date (I have one, too ) and your SD

Thanks All, When I damaged my sub I had a lot of work done. Here is the info I KNOW as fact. When i bought it I received some paperwork describing how much time was gained or lost in different situations. Seems like it was tested in a oven and in a Refriduater and a few other areas , also in different positions. All the answers were written by hand. It came wit a tag and box. Maybe more I cannot remember
I know it had a 4 line dial . When it returned from repairs it only had 2 lines. The case said model 5512 but when the case back came off it said 5513. I am told this is not unusual. Here is the info the expert from Ca has told me after he examined it Ref 5512 with 5513 case back,Manf .3rd Quarter 1965 second series with cal.1560 movement. Now he mentions the dial had been replaced with a modern dial from Rolex-not reprinted. However when he returned from New York last week from an antique watch and Jewelry show he said the dial had been RElumed and wasnt worth as much. As far as what it is worth I at this point do not know. He and I have made a deal but it has not been completed. I seethem(5512) offered on ebay at between 6100.00 and 16000.00 ,so what it is worth is unknown to me. After 40 years $ value doesnt matter to much . As soon as I figure out how to take a picture and get it developed I will put picture of what I have on here if I can. Thanks for listening Doug |
