what would you pick and why?
hi guys:
which of the below Patek would you pick and why? 5980/1a 5726 5205 are these Three watches sharing the same base movement? are they in-house made or Patek used someone else's movement and make them better? i tried 5712a, but it looks so small on my wrist. thanks for all your inputs. Alex |

Don't worry Tom, I'm here for that!
5980/1A 5726A 5205G By the way, the 5205G gets my vote.

As well, to answer your other questions, I'm not sure what you mean about the same base movement but all modern Patek's have in-house movements.

Patek Philippe has used other watchmakers movements in the past, but they currently make all of their own movements.
Of the three you have chosen, it would be between the 5980 and 5205 for me. I like their Nautilus line, bulls eye, chronographs, and I prefer bracelets over leather straps. However the 5205 has a very distinct dial. I would probably go with the 5980 of the three you have chosen. It sounds as your not sure however. So I would say in this case you might want to take some more time and conduct some research and make sure you chose the right watch for yourself.

The two AC's (5205G & 5726A) have the same 324 movement. Where as the 5980 with its chronograph complication has a different one. Which I believe was Patek's first in house chrono movement.
I have got the the 5205 with darker dial, its a fabulous watch but in certain light can be difficult yo read. I was put of having the 5726 for two reasons: 1) Again the ledgibilty of the apertures, which can be hidden quite abit by the hands. 2) The price which for a S/S watch is very high and only about £3,000 - 4,000 lower than the W/G 5205. The 5980 is a great watch and one that I have been tempted on sevearl occasions to get.

5205 would be my choice, although the am/pm indicator is pretty useless.

I am no expert in movement. This is just my own personal taste. If I go for a Patek chronograph, I will go for 5960P. You just have to visit a few dealer and hope they got one for you to try.

Easily my vote go to 5205G, the Annual Calender for me is more useful than chrono and of these three 5205g priced reasonably and it is the only gold among them. Beside AC of these two 5726 feel very light steel case and not solid enough further the day month aperture can be hidden by the hand.
So my pick is 5205g thanks |

I've seen these 3 models recently at my AD. Although they were still in their sealed boxes from Patek, the black dial 5980 would be my choice.

For me, 5726 followed closely by the 5980. The 5205 is gorgeous as well - I prefer the lighter dial, but I suspect I'm probably in the minority on that.
You can't go wrong with any of these options. |
