Who has better lume Omega or Marathon?
I'm looking very seriously at pulling the trigger on a Marathon SAR as I'd like a seriously rugged dive watch with very good lume. I've had a 2254.50 omega and was thrilled with the lume. I'm a bit dissapointed with the lume on my Sub Date. How does marathon stack up?
Thanks Guys

Both watches have good illumination. The Seamaster has almost indecent amounts of lume and get very bright. I've not worn my (sold now) 300m all night, so I don't know how long it stays lit. The illumination SAR last all night. Pretty amazing.
Get the SAR, it's an amazing watch. I've worn mine almost non-stop for over 5 years. Very robust and dependable and a watch I don't mind getting beat up. |

Chris,
The lume is light years better than my Z series sub and seadweller. I purchased the watch from County Comm--or maybe broadarrow.net--the receipt's somewhere in my house. Anyway, the SAR has a 1 year warranty. I have never used it. County Comm deal with repair on Marathon watches when the warranty runs out. To be honest, I brought the SAR as a beater and intend to wear it until it craps out. Yes, I understand its value to military watch collectors.... Two other forum members may be more helpful: Dan Pierce and Paulie they may have more info about the SAR. |

I am getting tempted by getting a Omega PO 44 MM, but then again two watches (Rolex SD + SS Cos) are enough for me.

Chris,
Paulie has one for sale and I'd buy from him. Since mine is from 2004 it doesn't have the US seal on the clasp. Wish it did. Good luck, dP

I've owned three SARs (two were issue) and two Omegas. The Marathon CSAR/TSAR is virtually indestructible and can take a beating (it's issued to SAR Techs here in Canada and I think to PJs in the USA {Navy / Coast Guard?}). An excellent timepiece with fantastic and long-lasting lume (the gas vials are amazing).

Pat,
The SAR line (CSAR / TSAR) is made by the Marathon Watch Company based out of Richmond Hill, Ontario, although the watch is actually manufactured in Switzerland, where Marathon owns two factories. The bracelet clasp is stamped with a rather large maple leaf. I like it (admittedly, I am a bit biased, being Canadian). If it's not what you like, you can get very similar watchadoo bracelets. James

Here are more pics. My SAR's pretty beat-up but this thing is tough! Photos taken today.

I see... The watches offered by westcoastime are genuine Canadian Marathons. They offer them in quartz, automatic w/tritium vials or std. luminous material. All of them (as far as I can tell) however come with a nylon/nato style strap. If you must have the Maple leaf OEM bracelet, then perhaps they are not your source. Given the choice, I would seek out the H3 tritium vial version. The lume is in a whole other class over Luminova, Lumabrite, Super Luminova, etc. I own a few watches with these and the night visability is unmatched by anything else available. Good luck finding your new watch...
