Icon20 Battle of the Steel Beasts: DSSD vs YM2 SS (The Great White)

I took this pics for a client who is torn between the DSSD and the YM 2 SS. Hopefully this post will help others who are torn between these 2 beasts.

We should call the YM2 SS (116680) "The Great White".

Two different watches with 2 different purposes.
But if for show then the YM2
If for toll and utilization then the dssd.

There's already at least 2 great whites: the 1665 SD, and the Omega GMT 2538.20

DSSD wins 'beast' comp.

Dssd would smash the YM into little pieces and then go for a swim

God help us if one of the most iconic brands in the history of mechanical watches come to this, a white beast YM11 and super sexy DSSD. Sorry for me they will always be just Rolex watches with there correct names. You can keep all the other IMHO rather silly almost childish names to the designer type watches. And today I would doubt if many DSSD ever see any water or with the YM11 and kind of water sport like yacht racing, so basically is what the OP client likes the best he has to wear it.

But you would not see it as your body would be crushed with the water pressure. Fact there have been more men that have gone to the moon than have gone past 300m 1000ft in water with just scuba gear.

WHen I was looking to get into the ROlex brand, I wanted one of the "bigger" watches, so my choices were the DSSD and YMii. I loved the DSSD instantly as it has the same stying cues of the classic sub and I found the YMii too gimicky, and the price difference of paying a good chunk more for the SS YMii was not justified IMO. So DSSD it is for me!

I've tried almost all the contemporary Rolex models, but never the YM II.

Being an owner of the DSSD I find both too big. There may be some magic in the YM II but at least before trying it I can't say I really see that. No need to measure the regatta times, bezel again a bit loaded, I don't know.

But as I said, one man's cherry is another man's poison.

Oh - thanks for sharing, Neil. Useful shots.

Two different watches with no comparison.

Well, for me it would be the YMII...but I think this would depend on a lot of factors, like what you already have in your collection and your lifestyle, to name a couple.
