$30k budget: What watch(s) do you get?
Seen a couple of threads on here like this and had a lot of fun getting ideas from them.
Four watches...$12,000....what is in your stable? http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=351625 Perfect 3 watches collection http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=317824 What 2 watches to buy with $20k from AD http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=351310 $30k budget...what watch or watches would you get? Of note, I have a GMT IIc so as much as I would love BLNRs and SS Black subs, I didn't include them in my suggestions below. Do you go big on one "grail" type watch like a Patek 5711A, or spread it around on multiple "watches for every occasion" like a SS Rolex/Pam/IWC/Omega Speedy? Some ideas: +/-$5k or under Tudor Black Bay Bell & Ross IWC Portofino/Portuguese Omega Speedy Vintage Rolex 1675 Pepsi +/- $-7 to 10K or less Sub Hulk SS Daytona New Sea-dweller Panerai 372/422/423 JLC Master Chronograph +/-$15k AP Royal Oak SS ??? Maybe some Vintage red-subs are in this price range +/-$20k WG/YG/RG Daytona on strap Lange 1 Patek Calavatra Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono +/-$25k YG Rolex Sub PM Daytona's GMT IIc BLRO (Not sure on price yet) +/-$30k WG Sub Smurf Patek 5711 Vintage Daytonas 6263 (don't think you can get these for $30k anymore). Lets hear your choices. |

There was a thread a few months back with this exact budget.
For me: Daytona: $10k GMT IIC: $6.5k Older WG DD: $10k Save the extra $3.5k for the next one. |

And you are correct, you cannot buy a 6263 for $30k.
One just sold at Sotheby for $402k. |

I would say get the one best watch that you desire. I'd go WG sub and then use the balance towards something else

116618 and 1675 based on your list. I myself would go for 116718 and 116660.
Get what sings to you. I'd recommend trying some on and getting a feel and visual sense of as many pieces as possible. It's much easier to make a decision (for me) after getting to physically handle them. |

Preowned gold (or pepsi white gold) and a new sea dweller.

As you have a GMTc I'd get the best watch you can so either Patek or Smurf.

Ive seen preowned Platinum Presidents for around 30k.
I always try to buy preowned newused watches...best bang for buck. Honestly for 30k I would be on the hunt for a preowned Tudor milsub with discharge paperwork. Milsubs are super hot and will continue to be hot...values have skyrocketed. The new WG GMT Coke is very nice as well. |

Something vintage with a plexiglass crystal and some nice patina, then something modern like a GMTC or SubC.

Same three I have now:
39mm Exp 14060M Submariner; and, 16710 GMT Coke. Take what's left over and invest accordingly. |

A Big Red 6263 can be had for mid to high 30s. I had one and loved it but hard to dress up IMO. I'd get one killer piece you can wear often...5711 Blue Dial for all occasions
