GMT - Master II question

Howdy,

Quick question dear TRF members... First of all I apologise if I 'm posting this in the wrong subforum, but I think this is a question for vintage Rolex aficionados. I have basically no knowledge about GMTs, but I was told that this GMT is rare due to the "GMT - Master ll" sign. What I was told is that usually number 2 in the sign looks like II and htis one looks like ll. So it doesn't have little stripes above and underneath ll. Is this true or not?

It's a known variant I am not sure I would call it rare.

Welcome to the forum!

These are referred as "stick" or "error" dials..

I think the only variance that folks were snatching these up were the ones with the 3186 movement.

Sellers charge more for them but not worth paying the extra, IMO.

It should be notet for the sake of good order that some of those "stick dials" might have a newer movement inside than the other "normal dial" GMT 2s. So a slightly higher price might be caused by the movement inside and not just the sticks. However, the watch case must be opened to verify on a case by case basis (pun not intended).

I actually prefer the way the stick dial looks. However, in person, I can't even see it! chalk that up to old age. Lol.
