Please talk me out of this...

I am drawn to this 1665 double red M111. It's patina and age speak to me for some reason. Its on Jacek's site.

http://www.hqmilton.com/watches/1972...mark-iii-dial1

Yes, I know the dial is everything (or most everything)...and this one has a scar. I probably wouldn't spend the money for a prime example but is this one just to much of a compromise?

Should I stop window shopping and move along, or consider a trade against my 1680 (plus a chunk of cash)?

Pretty sure I know the right answer (no) but confirmation is always helpful! Let me know what you think.

Here is my 1680 just so you know what I would have to give up.

The listing says the scratched dial has been "darkened by a sharpie." Condition is of a paramount importance. Talk yourself out of this and enjoy your 1680.

As condition is tops on the list for me, I would not give up your 1680 towards that particular DRSD.

Whats the price range for a solid example (not mint or safe queen)?

Upper $20s?

I would keep red sub. Go only for the best condition watches. That scar would drive me nuts

your 1680 is tops.. The double red looks great until I read the sharpie comment. That is a BIG NO for me as well.

If you're looking for no B&P's, just the watch, I would say 25k seems about right; more or less, again, depending on condition and minor flaws.

too much cash for the watch with that dial

The smallest things can ruin something - I think within a very short period of time that dial would drive you nuts

I agree. Thanks all. I knew it was a no go, but liked its character.

However, my eye would always track right to the scar.

No way. Huge scratch is a deal breaker.

Unless you're a stickler for B&P, just wait for a good example without B&P for about $25k.

You have answered your own question. No doubt I would take your red over the DRSD.
