info on a 6426 model please
my 1st post :)
Hi, just registered as I would like some info (if anyone can help) on a Mens Oyster Precision Stainless Steel (without a date) and having what I'd say a pale gold looking face, I've just picked up this week. I've been told it's date is 1967, with it's original bracelet (that has those nice little 'lugs' on each link). Serial#202641 is the number on the case under the 6oClock position Model#6426 is the number on the case above the 12oClock position do these numbers all sound right? thanks in advance :) |

Sounds like a manual wind, 34 mm case? Do you have photos? We like photos.

here you go.... not the best arty shots... camera phone and all that lol
came with no box or papers, I bought it from my local Goldsmiths, where I've known the sales man since I placed my Daytona order back in 1994 (two year wait back then) .. so known him ages. The watch does come with a 2yr warranty :) |

It's either 1956 or you are missing a digit.

very nice watch, the 6426 is my favorite watch I own, very comfy, lightweight, and very elegant. I have the folded link on mine, the rivet on my 1500, I like the looks of the rivet better, but find the folded link comfier.

Well kept.. Likely 67/68. It would have a stamp inside the caseback to confirm.
no reason to suspect the bracelet is not original given the good condition of the head. The clasp may have a date stamp

That's correct RWT
Does it indicate a date from it? |

On the underside wings of the strap that fix onto the case of the watch where the pins hold on the case. There's the number 60 on both right hand sides.
The first main strap link in from the top. Number 7205 On the inner part of the clasp there's a number 4 above the number 69 |

Yes 2026415 = 1969
The bracelet says 4-69 I think that is conclusive. The watch is from 19 69 as I said earlier :-) |

It's probably not waterproof any more, so take off the bracelet and clean that separately in warm soapy water (or an ultrasonic cleaner if you have one), and just use a damp cloth and then dry micro-fibre cloth on the watch itself.

waterproof!!! It better be, lol it has a 2yr guarantee as it gets check over at their service centre and I asked if it's waterproof for me to swim in and they said yes. I went to water babies with our eldest on Saturday and it seemed ok :/
is there anything to 'buff' any slight scratches on the plastic glass? |

If it's been pressure tested then it should be ok. You need Polywatch to buff the acrylic crystal, though some people use toothpaste. You can find it on ebay or amazon.

thanks for your advice, I've used some toothpaste, its come up good on the acrylic 'glass'
then I went over the whole watch with MER car polish... seems to have cleaned it up well, then polished it off with a microfibre cloth. :) quite pleased with the results. Also rinsed and toothbrushed the wife's DateJust.. then MER'd that too. She' pleased and I now have some brownie points. :) |

Any good clear coat polish will be fairly effective.
I was shown this by a plastics fabricator when I went to have some new lenses for gauges on an antique car made. She asked why I wanted new ones. I said..these are scratched. She pulled out some star brite auto polish and made them look like new. So you are on the right track. Polywatch...is sometimes nice for the final even after the clear coat polish but really the car polish works fine and it's much cheaper. |

I would be willing to bet that band came with the watch.

I have seen the normal oyster strap on watches of the same model too, I wondered if that would have been an option then?
