5140 vs 5205

Yes, yes, an apples to oranges comparison, but I am curious which would you prefer to own as your "calendar" / "daily" watch?

- Perpetual vs. annual
- 37.5 vs. a small 40 mm
- Subdial display vs. apertures
- 5140 is thinner (dressier / more elegant) vs. 5205 thicker (sportier)
- traditional design vs. something a little more "fresh"?

I would appreciate comments on the these two regardless of case material, etc. BUT, something has crossed my mind and that something is the following:

5205R that I currently own being replaced by 5140P.

thanks.

My imagine:

I am a huge fan of the 5140p blue dial. Tough to find one in minty condition, but it is possible. If you know of one and decide not to move forward, I'd love to know where it is.

FWIW, I recently tried on the blue 5140p. It was extremely comfortable and easily could be a wonderful daily. The one I tried was definitely someone's daily, worn without too much care IMHO.

The watch has great weight (platinum!) and presence for being on the "smaller" side by today's standards, and it felt so right.

Good luck!

While I like the perpetual calendar function, I have trouble with the price differential from an annual. That, and the size difference would keep me in the 5205 out of those two.

Blue dial is pretty darn nice to look at though...

Thanks Stephen. I do know of a 5140P full set and mint that is for sale at a reasonable price. I will let you know if I don't decide to move on it. Or feel free to PM me if I forget to reach out in a week or so. Be well!

I prefer the 5205, the 5140 is a little too small and cluttered.

I would say that a platinum PC is definitely nicer than a RG AC. However considering the price is double for the platinum PC, consider your options carefully and make sure it is something you will definitely appreciate.

Thanks much. You seem to prefer white metals from what ive "seen" of your stunning collection of pateks! Let's see what happens, just a thought for now. Best.

Actually prefer the 3940 to the 5140 but the blue version 5140 is nice. No second hand though. 5205 in RG black dial is a beauty. They wear completely differently though. Worth a good try on.

Yes it's just a bit on the small side (37?) when I tried it on.

It's beautiful as they come imho.

The previous version is 36 and a bit more legible in the subdials but the blue dial version in amazing!

The blue is really devastating, saw it at an AD awhile back and it just sparkled.

Easy choice for me!

The 5140!

Why?

+ perpetual calendar
+ amazing blue dial
+ due its thinness it is very comfortable and discreet

Though I wish the 5140 has the more legible subdials (weekday, month) from the previous 3940...

Had a similar dilemma

The 5140 looks great in pics but rather small in person. I'd hold off to see what they replace it with

I would keep the 5205r - owning one myself it is gorgeous.

I am a BIG fan of blue dials and own two myself (Smurf & Daytona Blue Arab), but I think Patek has better options if you want to trade for a blue dial in this price range.

I like both of them, but I also have a difficult time reading the time on both of these watches. I wish the 5140P had white hands, or the 5205R (black) had brushed hands.

5140 - but wait until Baselworld as there may be a new perpetual calander model being launched

Looking on Pateks website, I did not see the blue dialed 5140P offered.
