Opinions wanted on a Root Beer GMT

While at a local jewelers today I noticed a 1987 TT GMT with a jubilee bracelet. I has a little cracking on the lume close to the Mercedes part of the hour hand. It's all original and there is stretch on the bracelet. They are asking 1700.00 for it. Sounds very inexpensive. What's your opinion? =) maverick

Not very crazy about the Root Beer GMT Mav but I do like the GMT on the jubilee. The price sems good enough but does it smile at you at all?

I've never been a fan of the root beer GMT but this vintage one looks OK in person. I could start a small GMT collection with the two I already have. The price is very attractive. =) maverick

And a little more subtle...

Thanks, Prince. That's the one which will not appeal to all. I've seen one in person and found it to be quite okay. Personally, I wouldn't buy it, but if it smiles at you....why not? It's still a Rolex, right?

Exactly, JJ! And Mav, if you can live with the small crack (no jokes, please!), by all means, get this puppy if it speaks to you.

I'm not a big fan of the root beer flavor (but then I'm not a fan of the Pepsi, either). But it does seem like a great price for a vintage piece. You probably can't go wrong with it at that price.

I am not sure myself because I was not in the market for a TT GMT. It really caught me off guard when I spotted it. I will say you cannot judge them by pics. They do look much better in person. The price is one thing that got my attention. Any decent Rolex seems to be well over 2K. But I think I will pass. A GMT collection crossed my mind since I have two but there are a few I would prefer before the Root Beer version. Thanks for the replies, =) maverick

Price seems to be about right, not one of Rolex best seller, not so many around which could be a plus,in the next 20 odd years.Get your negotiating skills out Dennis and bargain hard for a better price.

I might do the Padi. This store does not move high end watches very fast. They had a pre-owned 16610 there for quite a long time. They also don't 'push' these Rolex watches they get. I believe they are estate watches. =) maverick

Hi maverick,

i also feel 1700 is a good buy for TT RB GMT, can consider.

Nevertheless, should check whether it comes with the paper, original box or etc...

enjoy the fun getting it.
