Great Grandfather's Watch

Hello, I am fairly new here. Joined after recently buying my first Rolex and noticed this Non-Rolex section. My Great Grandfather died in the early sixties and left me his Bulova watch. I discovered it in a drawer a few weeks ago. It has been packed away for decades. Took it out, shook it gently a few times and it started right up! I don't know much about the brand or the watch, but from what I could find it appears that it was made in the mid fifties. Grandfather was an interesting man. Built his house in Michigan entirely by hand and from materials (stone and lumber) from his property. Traded crops for square cut nails and glass window panes. The house is still standing. The photo of me with him was taken inside the house in 1955. He lived to be 98 years old.

Very clean watch (with the box!!!) and a great story. I would find a watchmaker and have the movement serviced and leave it alone.

Thanks for sharing.

Great story and great watch. I too have my grandfather's watch which is a Bulova after he passed away and they were built to last that's for sure. It's great to see the complete set. Definitely something with a lot of history and memories to pass down in your family.

Wonderful family story. Memorable moments. I guess after taking the watch, when You said this : "Took it out, shook it gently a few times and it started right up!" Your heart started to beat stronger... after decades to start ticking again, wonderful!
I myself have a lot of watches which did not work for many years, and it's fantastic feeling when You hear them ticking again, after sooo long time.
Thanks for sharing this story!

Yes, I was actually surprised as the watch has been wrapped in a package since the late 70's!
