BLNR or SD43?
Hi, looking for some advice but appreciate it's down to personal opinions only.
I am next on the list (hopefully this month) for a BLNR at my local AD but the new SD43 has got me doubting if I am making the right choice. It's for a daily watch for all times (work in a suit). I used to have a LN GMT which I liked but sold it a few months ago to try and justify the BLNR given how close the watches are. I bought the LN about 6 months before the BLNR was released in 2012 and always wished I had waited with hindsight. The appeal of the SD43 is that it is a little bit bigger as I'm quite a big chap and I always think 40mm is quite small. The option to try them both on together doesn't exist unfortunately nor does buy them both! I've got a good relationship with my AD so whilst the SD43 might be a longer wait I don't think it would be too long. Thoughts from forum appreciated. Cheers |

I'd get the BLNR personally and save a shed load a cash. It's only the bezel that makes the SD43 larger.

SD43 will be a more desirable watch in my opinion. Plus, the non PCL's and the black bezel and dial make it a more versatile watch for different occasions. I personally do not like PCL's as I think they make the watch more vulnerable to scratches. I would get the SD43 if you can.

As you said, the decision is one of personal preferences. I had no second thoughts buying the BLNR over the Sub. My GMT II was instant lust.
I would worry that any of the big dive watches are not going to easily slide under a short sleeve or a coat sleeve. The little data I've seen indicates the SD43 sits almost as high as the Deep Sea.i don't like to be fiddling with my shirt cuffs to pull them over a big watch. My BLNR does not present this problem. I'm waiting to try on the new SD43, but with a 7" wrist, I think it will look outsized. |

Hello, they are both extremely good looking watches though very different.
In my mind the SD43 is the one to get, however I collect SDs and Subs and I am a bit bias towards the divers ;) It is a brand new watch and sort of a new direction for Rolex SD so I believe it is worth having it to appreciate the design and technology that went into creating it. If you are a big chap then it's even better as the SD43 will suit you perfectly. I on the other hand have small wrists and although I absolutely love the DSSD and the SD43, the regular 40s" are the perfect fit. Whatever you end up choosing it will be a great watch and one that you'll definitely appreciate and love more everyday. Ciao |

Get the BLNR. The SD43 is a clumsy looking thing.

You had a GMT for several years. Give the SD a try.

SD43 is way taller on the wrist. Not good for cuffs and suits. Blnr is lower than Sub C even. Very convenient .

Will you be diving deeper than 200m under water?
Do you travel to different time zones? Whats your favorite color?

If it fits you, SD50 for sure.
The BLNR with the loud bezel numbers, blue & black and PCLs is a bit much for me. SD50 is just a clean, solid well-engineered sports watch. |

Do travel to different time zones but won't use this feature. Don't dive and my favourite colour is yellow. Does that help?

BLNR without a question, probably the classiest of all the current Rolex sports models
I passed on the sd50 and a daytonaC and got my BLNR a couple of weeks ago and it goes with everything, jeans, suits etc. The polished center links look awesome and give it a different look the sd50 is just a sub on steroids and doesnt fit property on alot of peoples wrists, get a black sub date instead if you want a totally brushed watch my next purchase wlll be a Bluesy |

See if you can try on the SD50 before you pull the trigger on the BLNR to see if it sits nicely under your suit shirt. Either way it sounds like you cannot really go wrong, buy at list or below and if you feel you have made the wrong choice it should be an easy flip. Good luck, and either way you will be in great company.

As a fellow big guy I would try on the SD43 in person but if it is as nice as the photographs that is what I am getting. I have owned several DSSD and had no issues with fitting under cuffs or wear. Both are regular production watches and you should be able to source either with time.

Next time don't dwell on choices you have made (for 4 years), but fix them sooner. Basel is only 10 months away now but waiting to see what they release seems pointless.

You'll know which one is for you after seeing them.
My advice, never go off of pictures and then, only purchase if the watch really sings to you. Good luck deciding. |
