Cayman love

An appreciation thread.

I've had a few fast cars over the years, but my Cayman 2.7 (manual) isn't one of them. But I love it more than any other, the way it goes round corners, it's a car you can really "lean on" in bends. The brakes, the controls.

The torque curve means you have to rev the nuts off it to get it to go. Wrong gear, and there's nothing there. So you have to work.

It's not the prettiest car ever made, but the proportions are "just so".

It looks great from any angle, and reminds me of the Ferrari Dino 246, which I loved as a child.

It's not as efficient as the new 4 cyl turbos, but they don't have the NA flat-6 sound.

I think it's the best all-round sports car ever made.

Any other owners, do chime in.

I am 6'2" and fit in a Boxster and 911.

Cayman should be no issue.

981 is destined to be a classic.

My wife drove a new 718 as I was pushing her to get one.

Now granted, she is a little crazy (just like me), but she was very claustrophobic. She found it too small for her, and she is 5'6".

I think it was the engine behind her that freaked her out.

Personally, I love what she settled on, but I would have loved to see her (me) in the 718.

Great car especially for you OP here in the UK...when the roads we have here make most hot hatches more fun than supercars, IMO the Cayman beats the 911 and probably one of the only proper sports cars that is actually useable over here.

I traded my 911 for it. Miles better, and doesn't attract the same amount of attention which the 911 did.

Also - people let you out at junctions! So it's actually faster.

Headroom's good, but I'm only 6'0.

It's faster if you are waiting at a junction. People are more charitable, and I think they like looking at it.

Love the Cayman! Almost bought one a couple of years ago but ended up with a bimmer instead. I needed a little more space :(

Love the cayman. I seriously want a 981 gts. We have a bit more room to run up this neck of the woods

You drive a left hand German registered car in the UK?

Beautiful car! I love the Cayman as well. Recently ordered a 718 and I cannot wait for it to arrive. August can't come fast enough.

James that is a beautiful ride. I just love the aesthetics of the Cayman compared to the 911, a personal choice to be sure. I'd love to pick up a used 981S, 981GTS, or if luck would have it a GT4 down the road as my summer car. The 718 looks great too, but I can't get my head around a 4-cyl turbo for this type of vehicle, even if it is a bit quicker than the NA engine that got replaced.

Gorgeous in any colour. Mine's a black one, and virtually no options on it (no SatNav, for instance). That 2.7 flat-six makes some lovely sounds at > 4000 rpm.

I'd rather drive it than photo it, tbh. And I'm the world's laziest fellow. I still don't have a decent pic of my 5712, and I've had that for five years.

After I get round to washing it, then maybe... but don't hold your breath.
