Submariner14060M VS Omega 2254.50
I own both and have a hard time deciding which I like better. Cool factor and looks go to the Sub. Legibility and lume go to the 2254.50. Durability is a wash in my experience, I've worn both doing "G-Shock stuff that would make most Rolex and Omega owners cringe. Bracelets are both exceedingly comfortable in their own way. The Sub disappears on the wrist, where the 2254.50 is a tad heavier but feels like liquid silk. I struggle each day with which one to wear as they both get more wrist time than the rest of my collection. I tried to post pics but just like last time Im exceeding some parameter (which is getting old, and may cause me to sign off here). What are your thoughts? They are both keepers but I have a hard time deciding which I like more.

Omega is a great brand but in my books, Rolex is in a whole different league. Sub is the ultimate sports watch, it has been and I bet it will continue to be for a long time.

Not sure that's a fair or even quantifiable statement outside of price.

I'm not an IT guy and have had my ass kicked by the interwebs but how do you post pics with the changes to the site?

I disagree. I've got a Sub and a GMT Master on the Rolex side, and a Speedy Pro and two Seamasters on the Omega side. All said watches are great and stand on their own merits. I don't want to make this into brand X vs. brand Y. I'm just looking for some insight on the two divers. If you don't don't have first hand experience with the two then you might want to bypass this thread.

Never owned a 14060, but have owned a Kermit and the 2254.50. Both are truly amazing tools. The biggest criticism I had of the seamaster is that I could never get the bracelet just right, in that regard I found the micro adjustment option on the sub to make the watch a much better fit for me.

I've owned both. I wore a 2254.50 as my only watch for 9 years. During that time it was worn every day, never serviced, and once around year two probably I ha it strapped to the handle of my golf bag when my buddy decided it would be funny to unstrap my bag from the cart so it would fall off when we drove away.,,.got a nice ding in the bezel for that one. It was a workhorse and kept COSC time for all those year. In the end I decided it was time for a service but when I thought about it I just didn't love the look of it enough anymore to want to spend the money. It felt a little dated....something that the Sub never seems to do.
It was a great watch and I do occasionally get nostalgic for my old companion, but I really think the Sub is just a nicer watch with a much more timeless and classic look. Better bezel, better dial, better lume color (though not quite as bright), no silly HEV valve sticking out the side, and while my Omega kept good time it never kept time as well as my Sub does. Now back when I got my Omega it could be had new for $1500 if you knew the right dealer....at that price it was a rediculously good deal. |

I too own both, I haven't worn the SM for some time but it was my first "good" watch, I'll never get rid of it. It was worn for five years straight with nary a problem. I can't say which one I like more but you can't beat the bang for your dollar with the 2254.50. If memory serves me correctly I bought it for around $1600.00 brand new.
One thing for sure, my 10 year old Omega blows my Submariner away in the lume dept, and that wave dial is just killer. I predict that clean examples of 2254.50's are only going to rise in price in the coming years.

I almost forgot, the caseback on the 2254.50 is an absolute thing of beauty!

I thank the 2254.50 for teaching me a lesson. It's one of the very few watches I've owned, sold, bought back and sold again. The 14060M is here to stay no question. I have no dog in this fight but you get the picture.

Thanks for the responses. I agree on the timeless look of the Sub. The bezel action on my 2254.50 is much smoother. I can turn it with one finger. That may be an anomaly between my two but it is my experience. To be honest the lume is really my love affair with the Omega.

This hobby was a million times more fun when a perfect mint 14060m cost $3500 and a similar 2254 was $1500.

I've had both. The Seamaster is a terrific diver and makes me long for the days before Omega started making hockey pucks. Somehow though I never could warm to that helium escape valve and sold it for that reason. Seemed too contrived.
The Sub remains and always will. |

300M vs. Submariner
The 300M is powered by an ETA movement with some distinctive Omega components and assembled by Omega (caliber 2500). Whereas the submariner's 3135 caliber is Rolex's movement designed and manufactured entirely by Rolex. I was recently in an Omega Boutique and the salesperson described the 300M as their entry level watch. He compared it to the submariner and I just don't see it that way.
I have a 3135 movement sub, a 2500 caliber Seamaster and a 8500 caliber planet ocean 600M. I feel the sub sits the best on my wrist followed by the 2500 caliber Planet Ocean and coming in last is the 600M because its the tallest. All are very nice sport watches.

Thank you
You're correct! I was incorrect and based it on the current 300M. I see the 2254 is an ETA 2892-A2 that is highly modified by Omega. I guess my original intent was the movement is not an in house Omega movement. I've read many other famous brands start with an ETA based movement before making their modifications and marketing the movement as their own in house movement. Whereas Rolex designs and manufcatures their own movements.

The dial on the Omega is nice. Not better than the sub, however. Where the Omega loses for me is the case and bracelet. Too much polish.

In all honesty, I have not even worn mine since I got my 14060M; it remains in the bank security deposit box. Aside from my other Rolexes, the only other watch to make the rotation is my first generation Planet Ocean. |

I have owned both and prefer the Sub. No issue with the Omega and I will probably pick one up as a beater in the future.

That Seamaster is great, can't say I regret my PO 2201.50, but I was a bit naive when I purchased it, thinking more robust was better. While the Sub is supposedly the standard for the class, I love my Planet Ocean, the dial, the accuracy, bracelet and feel. A bit tall, yes, but overall aesthetics and functionality are second to none.
From a collector's perspective I can see why one would lean toward the Sub, but performance, looks, durability, I really like the Seamaster.
