Servicing my Datejust

Hello, first time posting here and I am looking for some advice. I have a Datejust (16013) from 1986 that needs service. I took it to a local jeweler and was told that it would need what I believe is a basic servicing (new mainspring, new gaskets, clean and oil and test for water resistance). I don't want anything cosmetic done.

I was quoted $735 to do the service. Do you think this is a fair price? Based on browsing the forums I think it might be a bit high. Are there any places local to Houston, TX that are recommended?

Thanks.

I'd expect local service to be a bit cheaper. For that much, I'd personally just send it to the Dallas official service center.

For 600-700 range, might as well send it to Rolex RSC.

So $24 dollars per year (assuming this is the first, though that is a while) not bad. I would send to Dallas.

As stated above, for that price send to RSC, you are in Texas and it appears Dallas is one of the best. I sent my 1980 16014 to Toronto RSC and it came back like new. I paid under $1000 CAN so about the same you are quoted. Plus you get the 2 year international warranty, with card(which is as good as papers) a booklet and a nice pouch. Plus you know its done right. A pic of mine after service below.

It looks like the consensus is clear. For similar price, I suppose you can't beat Rolex guaranteeing the work. I'll be sending it to Dallas.

Thanks everyone.

I used RSC Dallas. 6 weeks from start to finish.

My 34mm 15038 needed a new crystal (I think they do this routinely) as well as a new crown, which added $175 to the $700 service.

So depending on parts, it might be a bit more. I paid a lot more to have a clasp and strap put on.

That said. they did a fantastic job polishing it, which I wanted, and regulation is also fantastic.

Over a 2 month period it was within 1 second of NIST time. YMMV.

I do position the watch at night depending if it's a bit fast or slow, face up if it's slow, and crown up if it's fast.

I'm fortunate to have this Rolex, a gift from my Mom in 1986, to be cherished!
