Is this a real white faced GMT?

If it is, why is there no 24 hour hand?

I think that is not only a fake, but a pretty bad one at that, I could be wrong, but I hope I am not proven so.

Ya I have been told its a fake. Lately I have been searching for info on the white dial Pan Am GMTs. I have become very interested in this piece (not to buy obviously since I cant imagine how much its worth)

I guess the crown guards should have been the giveaway

That would be a very sweet, but expensive find for sure. I have never seen one in person, but I would really like to for sure!!

Hey Roger,

That atrocious FAKE is contaminating the genuine one on the left. Please throw it in the nearest bin, thank you.

It looks fake to me too, but I have seen neither a first generation GMT (the first few issued to Pan Am employees white for ground and black for pilots) so I am not sure about the dial fonts and what not. I really want to know how many of the original white dialed models still exist. This piece has become quite interesting to me.

The one on the right was made in the famous watchmaking town of
Wongtyme China, and guaranteed to go wong, after 24 hours if you get
a good one.

I believe 300 were originally made to distinguish the ground crew from the pilots. They are very rare. As you can see the dial and hands are obviously replaced. I imagine they are worth a ton. I do not know if any more were made. =) maverick

As legend has it, in 1958 or 59, Pan Am President Juan Trippe had Rolex manufacture a batch of 100+ GMT Masters solely for the Pan Am executives. These special wristwatches differed from the watches given to Pan Am flight crews in that these "desk pilot" watches had a white dial (rather than the usual black dial)... What is very interesting is that over the last 40+ years, only two of these special Rolex watches have ever been found.I would expect if you could find a original one it would cost telephone numbers.

Padi, thanks for correcting my mistake. I wrote that from memory and got some details wrong. 100+ (white dial) is the correct number, for executives only.=) maverick
