Feedback wanted on my YM.

Hello all,
Since adding a silver dial DJII to my collection, I have found myself not reaching for my YM with platinum dial. What I loved about the YM was that it was elegant and yet sporty and goes with everything. Still like the look of it but am considering trading it out for a blue dial YM. I have thought about the Rhodium but also seems similar to the platinum. Would love any feedback for the board.

Now, before you guys start suggesting subs, gmt's, daytonas I have those as well so not looking for a different reference to add but rather input on the three dials of the YM.

Cheers to all,
Rick

I love the YM and considered all three dial variations. I went with the blue because it looks so different depending on the lighting. My favorite blue dial in my collection. And I love how the red jumps out against the blue. The platinum dial is very nice as well! Love the texture. The Rhodium is nice, but not for me. Lot of people like the blue but again, not for me.

You can't go wrong with the blue in my opinion.

Good luck!

I love the blue YM - but I'm biased.

If it's a similarity between the two dials that's holding you back, then I would definitely consider the blue.

Thanks, that is what I am leaning on doing. BTW, love your mustang. I have been considering adding a 68-70 Mustang GT Shelby, have the green light from wifey too!

I tried both on at the AD(Rhodium and Blue) The blue just looked so much better.

Birthday Watch

On my 75th in 2018, my wife told me to go buy a watch, no price limit.

My choice was a blue dial YM. I have it on as I write this. It's been 6 months since I walked out of the AD with the watch and I still find the watch stunning.

I'd stick to the original and give it some more time, you might fall in love again

I am not sure of the color, but the slate dial with the blue second hand is

Thanks! 68 is so bad ass. But anything 67-70 is awesome in my opinion.

All a matter of personal preference.

I actually think the platinum dial is the best looking one of the three SS models. The red accent on the sand-blast textured dial is one of my favorites from the Rolex professional line and you cannot get it any current Rolex references anymore.

Blue dial is very nice, esp set against the sandblasted Plat.

I’d get the blue dial, Rick. I found my YM too monotone after a while.

Holy crap, that looks great.

OP, the blue dial is gorgeous. But the platinum is no slouch either, and you already have it. The platinum dial is also unique among the Rolex lineup: most dials are painted brass, whereas with the platinum, you actually get to see the metal it's made of. On top of that, it's discontinued. I'm not saying don't do the switch, but I would recommend you be VERY sure of it before you do it.

Which is why I asked for feedback. Taking my decision seriously.

The rhodium/blue dial is amazing. Mine doesn't get much wear lately cause of the PCLs, to the point where I'm probably willing to sell it. But that has nothing to do with the dial - it really is awesome to look at.

Does Rolex allow you to change YM dials?

No they won't let you do it but my YM is a 16622 so the upgraded clasp is also a factor.

Funny, was looking at my PCL' and despite wearing frequently, it did not have many scratches at all. The bezel is in fabulous shape.

That is a beauty - I’ve seen it at an AD.

Have had the original platinum dial and loved every minute with it.

I thought they did swap dials but only if it was originally offered on that reference. The 16622 is tricky because they did offer the blue dial briefly - i think it was a limited number of pieces but the dials are fairly pricey. I had one with the platinum dial but it didn’t get much wear and I recently sold it. Great watch and very unassuming. I would’ve kept it if it was the blue dial. I looked at the 116622 blue dial but i think they’re overpriced right now and i would much rather have a Hulk or SubDateC for the same money. You’re essentially going to pay $3k-$4k more than you can get for yours for a different colored dial and new clasp.

Yes, I know but it will be brand new with updates on the clasp, engraving and dial. Thanks for your input.

I have the blue sunburst dial and think its stunning. The contrast with that platinum bezel gets me every time. That said, I also like both the classic platinum and newer rhodium dial - but for me, it's blue every time.

I fitted a modern DJ clasp on my YM Oyster bracelet, gives it the modern feel

If you are bored with your 16622 plat. dial and fancy a change, I think getting a blue dial 116622 is the logical decision if you like sunburst dials.

I also own the plat dial YM although the 116622. For those interested, the RSC would accept to swap the dial for a blue or rhodium one (same ref 116622). I was quoted 530 Euros 4 years ago for a blue dial (price might have increased since).

Blue dial YM was my first Rolex. The dial is just gorgeous especially when contrasted against the platinum bezel.

Love the YM with the blue dial. Super under rated watch. See it in person and decide for yourself.....I know a couple guys who own it and the owners all love them.
