Is it me, or does the watch not look exactly right. I no longer own any GMTs, but does the GMT hand look a little off (too large a pointer)? And does the cyclops not seem to magnify to the proper 2.5x? Lastly, the clasp looks to be a submariner clasp and not a GMT clasp. Not screaming fake... just wondering/observing.

As a fellow Michigander...

Glad to see he held on to his box and papers. I think he's in pain because he's selling a precious item to him. Lost his dog, job and now Rolex-Sucks. Michigan has the worst unemployment and selling a house (so that he can go where jobs are more plenty) is like squeezing blood out of a turnip. You can also suspect he's playing the "pity card", but who knows. I'm afraid there are more stories like this to come, perhaps less detailed though.

Looks very worn, which is expected for some who work in certain industries (and choose to wear a rolex). The crystal may be aftermarket, so the date is not right. His feedback and Rolex papers suggest authentic Rolex, but some parts may be cheaper alternatives. WIS would not allow it, but someone that just cares for the name on the dial looks at budget more than correctness. I believe Paypal offers the buyer some level of protection in the case it is a fake rolex.

Looks ok to me. It's just worn. The date thing is just camera angle.

Looks like the lume on the second hand has disappeared too, would that affect the movement potentially?

It sometimes amazes me how much these beat up and worn out watches still go for.

At service the watch can come back looking almost like new but at 2.7 for that piece, the average Joe will purchase something else. That much for something that is beat up....I guess that's what he means by holding it's value.

There is a lot of history behind that watch. From '94 it lived through this recession, his dog biting the Rolex and Detroit city collapsing right before his eyes.

Beware if you are purchasing this watch.

Poor guy. Can anyone make out the date on the certificate. I'd like to add this to my X series project posted in the reference section.

OK, now I see, it's a 94.

X659xxx 09.1994 GMT Coke

That's the 18th X series I have recorded and non of them are 1991. Can anyone give me the model no of the older SS GMT coke.

Thanks.

Nice watch he's selling, sucks what/why he has to sell it though.
With a little TLC, that watch can be looking like new :)

Looks ok to me.
There are GMT's that came with larger Submarine clasps.
I'd say too much because it likely never had service

Do the hands look black or is it just me? my two GMTs are not black. The arrow could be a bit big but not sure.

Watch needs a modest amount of TLC and you have a great GMT with box and papers.

Every Rolex tells a tale in this case I would pass many better ones available for the same money or a little bit more.

I emailed him. He's not totally desperate. I'm sure he'll be ok even if he doesn't sell it. He sold a business last year and doesn't see the point of starting a new one in this economy. He's also ready for a watch change. He works with his hands and is a bit hard on watches.

Now $2700.

Our previous governor was with us for 12 years. He spent his entire time giving tax cuts to the wealthiest Michiganders, spending the budget surplus, running out his term limit. When the State of Michigan was going in the tank, he got a promised job with a firm that he gave good benefits to when he was governor, and left the State to the next governor. She has been stuck with cutting and slashing the budget for every year that she has been in office. She is now left with slicing another one billion dollars out of this next year's budget. Our State was in a recession far longer than the rest of the country. In the news today it stated that 23 of the States in the USA are left with huge deficits and they are going to have to slash and burn their budgets or raise taxes. We built prisons in record numbers in this State and have a 2 billion dollar Department of Corrections Budget. But when they present prison reforms people scream; "We won't be safe." Everyone wants parks, roads, prisons, jails, services, etc., but no one wants to pay for them. Something does have to give in this State and others. Most of us will be sitting back saying; "Don't take a slice of my pie." It will be interesting to see where it all ends up. As long as we're all sitting around saying; "Cut his pork, but not mine" we will not get back to prosperity. This is a true chance to hopefully get every American back to working together to fix the mess we are in. I don't feel sorry for the guy. He can always choose to leave Michigan like many others have.

I'm still here going to work every day. I have to go to work to support Stan's retirement.

Everything appears 100% for this watch. Somebody got a nice watch at a great price. Also, if you read the style number at the top right hand corner of the warranty paper, it indicates it came with the Submariner band. Cheers to the buyer.

Ohio's in the same boat for slightly different reasons. Steel mills and coal mines to the south, all shadows of their former selves. Once, Wheeling Steel ruled the SE chunk of the state, now they barely have a single mill. Up north, it's manufacturing.

I'm fond of calling Toledo "Detroit Light" because whatever happens in Detroit filters down to Toledo sooner or later. I remember fondly the days when Jeep, GM Powertrain, OI, LOF were all flying high. Jeep ran 3 shifts every day in the 80s, same with GM Powertrain and LOF. Dana made a fortune supplying parts.

Now? Powertrain's on standby, Jeep's in trouble to the point of cutting shifts and having cars sitting around, and OI/LOF/Dana are all shadows that are perpetually fighting bankruptcy. Walgreens gets 800 applications for 12 positions, college graduates are flipping burgers because there isn't anything else.

Couple these with a corrupt governor that we barely managed to get rid of, and I feel the guy's pain. It's going to be rough here. It already is.

the reason I found his listing on ebay is because I'm looking for great local deals, and I missed this one!!!!!

back to the politics of this tread -

I have found wherever Michigan goes, the rest of the country follows. We had skyrocketting prices on homes a couple years before everyone else, then they followed. Our ressison started a year or 2 before the rest of the country. I remember as a kid in the 80's, Michigan hit hard times, and the country followed. When business here picked up, the rest of the country did also a year later.

I don't care what anyone else says, including the fat-cats of wall street and CEO's of corporations -
this is the core of the US economy that runs it all. Along with other manufactoring sectors.
TRICKLE UP !!!!
when the common man (such as auto workers) start to posper, they buy more, which lefts the entire economy up, which makes the rich richer.
when the 'common man' is hurting, it will catch up with the rest of the ecomony.

once the big 3 get their sh*t straight, and credit frees up for people to buy cars again, we will recover.
