DJ36 Opinions

Hello,

Is there anyone here that prefers the older model of DJ36’s, i.e. 116200/116234, than the newer 126200/126234, and if so, why?

Is there anyone here who has a DJ from the older, and newer range, and if so, what are your thoughts?

Has anyone got a side by side picture of both a 116200 and a 126200?

Finally, does anyone know what size the lug to lug length is on the newer Datejust 36?

Thank you

I have the 116201 and love the slightly rounder case with my domed bezel and roulette date. I had considered a new all steel but ultimately saw no reason to add, at least for now

I prefer the old 16200/16234.

Of the ones you mention, I prefer the current 126200/126234. It's more faithful to the original design

I agree the newer version appears closer to the five digit but the 116200(1) are rappellent of the bubble backs in their own right.

I believe the DJ 36 smooth bezel + blue dial + jublilee combo to be the 2020 surprise Rolex to become the most popular DJ of 2020.
The blue dial is always the most popular in the watch world with the blue sky dweller having the exact same shade of sunburst blue being the most scarce mass produced Rolex available today, the dial is clean and tidy, the hour markers are perfectly rectangular like an oyster perpetual, the lugs are slim and polished, the watch is useful for its date function, and the jubilee bracelet provides a touch of class and gives you a watch that can be recognised as a Rolex from across any room. With the 36mm size making a comeback in 2019, in 2020 I think it will be widely adopted and people will put away their 39/40mm, not to mention the sports line up which are all minimum 39mm+ are only available on the grey market.

I was always into my 39/40mm watches, I didn't even know 36mm existed nor was I interested and then a few weeks ago I saw an Explorer 1 36mm 114270 in the window of a second hand store which I purchased, and has since changed my whole view of watches and what I thought I knew and liked. I haven't worn any of my 39mm + size watches ever since.

Professional watches have their place and use, but I don't think they make good practical daily's for the majority of people who have working class jobs and even business men tbh.

Older model is better.

1. Brushed / thinner lugs
2. Stick markers with lume dots
3. Less obtrusive clasp (Jubilee)

The older model has fatter lugs.

I’m referring to the 116200 vs the 126200 etc.

Thanks

I personally sought out and purchased an 116234 DJ White baton/jubilee because:

- wanted the hidden jubilee clasp
- like the uniqueness of a roulette date wheel
- like the case profile
- didn't feel that the new movement was enough of a selling point
- lower price

I have a 116234, and I love the super jubilee bracelet on it because of the hidden clasp

The cases are different between mine and the new one, and the power reserve as well

As for the power reserve, I wear my watch daily, so don’t need the new increased power reserve

The new case design is nice, but so is mine haha

Plus, the white baton dial is not available on the current 126234

I prefer the older DJ36 because it has slightly beefier lugs, railway track, and roulette date wheel.

Hi there. Almost two months ago I purchased a new 126200 blue dial (see pic below) and really love it. At Basel last year, I saw the new design and really loved the changes (removing the Roman chapter ring on the dial, slimming the lugs, new 3235 movement). Upon seeing it in the flesh for the first time, it was love at first sight and I bought it. Incredible watch -- very comfortable, looks great with everything, keeping great time, just everything you could want in a watch.

I actually do have the question to your lug to lug length on the 126200/126234. I measured it with a digital caliper and it came out to 43.4 mm. I hope that helps.

All in all, I'd absolutely recommend this watch to anyone. It's fantastic.

My GF has the 116234 in blue with jubilee bracelet. It’s a beautiful watch with that specific bracelet. The newer dial is nicer in my opinion but overall the 126234 leaves something to be desired for me. For a man, the DJ36 is just a small time piece.

Love my 36mm SS, white dial DateJust, on my 7 1/2 inch wrist, it’s the quintessential Rolex. It gets more wrist time than my SS Submariner Date.

DJ36 Opinions

Thanks the input guys.

I own a DJ41 but every time I wear it, I can't help but feel that the watch is wearing me?!

The size is fine in a sports watch - I have others that are 40-41mm and I don't think twice, but whenever I put my DJ41 on, something about it isn't right.

I've always wanted the DJ, and it was always the 116200 but every time I went to purchase it, I went for the bigger option. I bought a 116300 - too big. Traded it for a DJ41 - feel like it's too big.

Every time I try on the DJ36, it seems a little small, but maybe because I'm used to wearing my Sub C and other watches.

My wrist size is 6.75. Every time I go in to a store, I'm always told that the larger DJ41 I go on with, is fits me better.

Maybe I just need to go for it?!

I don't want the newer model 126200 as the case has been slightly slimmed down. I called loads of smaller AD's yesterday/today and have found someone who has got an older 116200 still in. It was the original version I had always wanted, and it happens to be the thicker case, so I think it would be the happier medium.

I have posted about this before but didn't act on it, whereas now I have an opportunity to grab one of the last of it's kind.

I also think about longevity. I cannot imagine wearing a large DJ41 when I'm 50 or 60.

Tough decision.

Closer up wrist pics with your wrist turned towards you always make the watch look bigger than the reality. Your DJ41 looks perfect in the picture in your car.

The pictures of the 36 look a bit small (fluted) and good (smooth) which suggests to me that in reality the 36 is on the small side for you.

Its all just my personal opinion, of course, but you asked.

I wonder if 39mm would be your sweet spot? (as you see it)

I'm 60 and just got the DJ41 and it fits well. Age is a non-issue, what matters is that you like the way the watch looks on you. Your DJ41 looks fine on your wrist and by the picture you can't tell that much big of a difference between the two. Both look nice and both are great watches. I also like the new movement on the DJ41 the 3235.

Thanks.

I think where I wanted a DJ for so many years (before the larger versions came out) that by getting the new bigger models, the itch hasn't been scratched and I keep going back to wanting the smaller model.

I actually prefer the idea of having the older movement - tried and tested. Not that the newer one won't reach that status.

Seems like the DJ36 is what sings to you. Wear what makes you happy. Both are great watches and true the 3235 movement is still on its honeymoon but so far I like it. Only time will tell. .:)

Of course yeah I'm putting it out there for your opinions!

The 39mm won't solve anything as it's lug-to-lug is actually marginally longer than the DJ41, so in essence, it looks even bigger!

It's the smooth bezel I'd go for in the 36mm.

My wrist is only 6.75, so the 36 must be suitable haha. I hate having this choice. If it was pre 2009 (when DJ2 first came out), size would not be an issue, I'd just get a 36mm and never have questioned anything.
