An important lesson learned: fill out your insurance forms correctly.

That must have been one heck of a skiing accident to lose his watch, or maybe it was Springtime skiing.

When skiing, my watch is under a thin layer of polypropylene, and then another layer, either a pullover or sweater. Then an outer layer ski jacket over that, plus ski gloves that cover my wrists. Even if my watch strap or bracelet failed, the watch wouldn’t go anywhere.

I'd not be leaving that area until I melted all the snow to reveal my watch. Time to bring the flamethrower out.

I read a thread on here of a guy losing his watch in a river and it being found. It was just a fairly common sub. This watch seems like it would be fairly easy to find with a bit of effort in comparison

$350k 1976 Daytona lost skiing/insurance denied

Couple of years ago went playing in a ski resort with some friends outside was heavy snow , lost my car key, you know that thing is small and you can always sent a courier to bring you the spare / second key…. Well it took us about 20 minutes to find the damn key and we weren’t sober at all

To loose a 300k watch and not actually dig for it in that case seems strage, at least .
I don’t buy this.

Pretty “unlucky” guy.

Well it’s now an uninsured loss.

The Aspen locals are now ramping up a scavenger hunt.

This is nonsense. Insurance company looking for any way out. No way his prior claim would have changed much, maybe a slightly higher premium, had it been disclosed.

Wow that's wild. Kind of interesting that they accepted, gave coverage and accepted premiums yet are using this as an out - bad business in my opinion.

I get that he should have been forthright about the prior claim but they still issued the policy...

I think this had more to do with the fact that he perjured himself in court. Hard to claim you "forgot" about submitting the former claim, then claiming ignorance when the person who filed the new policy subsequently filed the previous claim.
Insurance companies and bad business go hand in hand. They're the biggest scam the world has ever endured

True story. My ins wouldnt cover a boat I recently acquired at fair market value due to “underwriter’s research indicates the value is $xxxxxx”

I said, ok, I’m going to move all my policies in that case. VOILA! The boat was covered at the market value. What a bunch of BS

SRI to disagree. Prior claim history is material. Failing to advise an insurer of a prior claim is material. A material misrepresentation is cause for an insurance company to void the policy . Companies rely on history to select who to insure as well as what premium to charge. Companies can only afford to insure so many high value watches at the rates they are allowed to charge.

I don’t date Victoria’s Secret models, maybe if I did I’d understand why someone would go skiing wearing a $350,000 watch.
