Almost time for my new Rolex....but....
AM I EVER SO UNDECIDED!!!!
I am completely undecided between the SS Sub and the new GMT IIc. I will eventualy have both, but which to get first? I am going strictly on looks and aesthetics since I am neither a diver nor do I travel frequently to different time zones. What would you guys do?? BTW I have tried them both on at my AD, they both look great on me! THANKS!!! Abdon |

This may sound cheezy but follow your heart!
The GMTIIc has all the upgrades and is a fantastic watch. The SS subdate is also stunning. It will also (probably) eventually have the upgrades that the GMTIIc has (ceramic bezel, solid link bracelet, parachrom blue hairspring, supercase, maxi dial etc etc..) Buy the one that sings to you the most. You can't go wrong either way. If money isn't an issue right now, I would buy the one that costs more now (GMTIIc). That way, you won't need to save as much for your subdate |

Well, here's the thing...I really like the new uprades on the GMT....the cerachrome bezel, the PCL, the clasp, the green wording and green 2nd time zone hand, the larger triplock crown with the crown guards.....I am not too crazy about the "enlarged" case, which is the only thing I am not totally crazy about...but I could live with it.
I love everything about the Sub, but it's more "common" than the GMT at this time...it lacks a certain "elegance" that the GMT possesses....but it is truly a classic Rolex. Like I said, I will have both eventually....but what to get first? I know the Sub will change a bit in the near future (2010?) so should I get the one currently available now while the getting is good or should I wait for the new one and get that one? Or better yet....should I get all 3??? YIKES!!! LOL |

As far as the money is concerned, I have the money, in cash, right now for either.
I have been saving for a while, and I thought the decision would be easy at this point....it's not! It will probably take me another year to save up for the Sub if i get the GMT first. |

Well, if it going to take you another year to save up for the Sub anyway, i'd get the GMT-IIc now as in a year's time there's a good chance we'll have a new SS Sub out in AD's. Might take a little longer, but it should be right in your time frame.
I was in the same situation - TT Sub or SS GMT-IIc? I picked up the GMT-IIc at a great price and am still deciding on a new TT Blue Sub when they come out or a YG Day-Date. Either way you go, both watches are amazing. Wear it in good health! |

I would go with the Sub first and then the GMT. Both are great watches but I feel the Sub is the icon of Rolex.

You have to also take into consideration that if the new sub comes out it will probably be more expensive. I am guessing somewhere around $8k, which is a big jump from the current SS Sub.

GMT 2c, not just because of the material upgrades but also because prices have come down quite a bit. Used to be that the watch sold at a premium; now, I think you'd be able to negotiate a discount that takes it close to the Sub-date's price.

Nobody mentioned the bracelet!
Big factor in my opinion is the all matt bracelet on the submariner that sets it apart! While the GMT IIc has shiny center links which in my opinion make it (cheaper) looking!

GMT IIc now and the sub later... wait for the new stainless steel sub if you would like to get the newer model.
or Get the SDDS now (instead of sub) and the GMT IIc later. even if you dont like SDDS, you will love it once you get it |

,,,,,,,,GET THE SUB WHILE YOU STILL CAN.........................
Besides, that way you won't be wearing a watch where everybody asks "Koool,........ Is that a Sub ?" .............

If you're sure you'll have both, get the IIc first. If a new Sub does come out later you'll be able to compare the new to the old. The 16610 will be available at ADs for a while.
Or.....just get em all. |

The GMT is the latest and greatest but it does not have a 120 click bezel. I find a 120 click timing bezel extremely useful. You can use it to time lunch breaks, cooking times, telephone calls, etc., etc. and mark appointment times. If you don't need a timer get the GMT.

Form must follow function
Get a Datejust!
I had trouble buying a diving or traveler's watch since I never dive or travel much. I wore a Seamaster Pro for years and the superflourity of it always bothered me. Now if you HAVE to pick one of the two, I suggest the Subbie. It's a little more appropriate for the average guy. I mean the only capablity you won't use is the depth rating. The bezel will even come in handle timing parking meters and when baking cakes. |

Depending whether you want the sub with cerachrome or not... if u want cerachrome, then no other choice -> get GMT2C first, but if u dun want it, i suggest getting ss sub first as they will soon be discontinued (or shall i say replaced by newer model w cerachrome bezel)
but pls do note that when the new ss sub model come out, it won't be likely to be selling at discount... so my suggestion is: - get SS sub this year - get GMT2c next year or two - then get cerachrome sub when they start selling at discount then after that ppl will you |

I love them both too...I like the Sub as it is much lower profile and doesnt get the looks the GMT in TT does. I bought the GMT IIc in TT 2 weeks ago and just picked up a SS Sub LV today. I really dont think you can go wrong (with the watch that is) now your wife if like mine is another issue completely...Good luck with your decision.
