Will we ever see rectangular Oyster case?

The circular Rolex watch case with it's super watertight crown, has been with us longer than my memory. Watch movements are mostly circular, so perhaps a new model Rolex might someday be retangular, retaining a screwback and gasket to access the 'works', but the total width of the screwback no more than the width of the rectangular case?

Anything is possible. If rectangular cases ever came into style I could see it. I would guess that it would be a Cellini (or whatever Rolex calls their higher-end dressy collection at that time)

Already have.

In the early days the Oyster Cushion cases were square, although the dials were still round

The rectangular watch case I was imagining would be a case made from a solid blank just as Rolex are presently made. Any retangular watch I have ever seen appears to have been made from sheet metal?

When we think back to the 1950s bracelet with it's rivet heads protruding along the edge of the bracelet, and how bracelets today have articulating pins pushed into the edge links. Then surely today, a retangualar watch case made from a blank of metal, could be computer milled by machine to have an exact fit retangular milled back, pressure fitted with a gasket, fitted to the new watch at the Rolex factory and only opened/closed at a Rolex Service Centre? Say, watertight enough to allow swimming wearing said rectangular Rolex?

I sincerely hope not and it’s the reason I do not own an Apple Watch. Watches should be circular.

Yes, I realise such cushion watch were square, but I'm hoping Rolex will perhaps create a new model case using the new(ish) technology of computer design milling.
I just cannot see at the present, a new watch model for me, and different colour bezel inserts don't have any appeal.

Rectangular watch cases are difficult to be made with high water resistance.

A modern Rolex OysterQuartz case/bracelet model using their automatic movements could be fun…

I believe the Rolex Oyster is technically a tonneau shaped case so it isn't strictly round.

You guys who have posted have got the idea!
But the rectangular watch case I hope for would have a pressure fitted back (brought about by computer aided milling of both case and back) and 'oyster' enough to allow never needing to take the Rolex off when swimming!

A solid square watchcase would have more weight than the current round ones. If the market desires heavier cases for style reasons then it’s possible.

Such a departure from Rolex Oyster case design tradition would likely be first seen in a Tudor model to test the waters. Just my

If they still made that, I'd be very tempted.

Herr Blume, in Stuttgart, just might have something to say.
