Thoughts on gold

My current collection is all stainless(stainless Daytona, and an old stainless sub) and wanting to get a gold piece.

Thinking either the yellow gold submariner 41 with blue dial or the Rosegold, GMT 40 with the root beer dial

I know some say gold in a professional line is silly, but I’m not into the classics

I love PM pieces. Go for what you like, prefer the suv of the 2 you picked.

I can't wear Gold, otherwise I'd be rocking the GMT Root Beer. That watch is stunning and IMO VERY underrated.

Personally, there is only one PM Professional model that I think looks more amazing than its steel counterpart: RG YM 37/40 on OF. The matte band, dial, and bezel with just enough of that dark, coppery gold showing is a great looking watch, and lacks the flash of a gold bracelet.

There are also some great looking WG Daytonas.

Second this - go and try a Root Beer on & you’ll feel the difference instantly weight wise between that vs SS. Pure class.

PM hits different on your skin, definitely would recommend getting one ;) and out of the two, I'd go for the RG GMT vs the sub. That GMT is an art piece.

gold = better. You won't regret it. Personally I prefer the GMT. Let us know what you end up doing!

Slippery slope, I wear gold daily and it has made me forget about wearing any SS model.

Perhaps wait for the new yellow gold GMT on jubilee

Thoughts on gold

Full gold is really something, they feel great. Sport Rolex watches in gold however…not for me.

A PM Daytona (116509) is my mostly daily wearer. Even the Sub feels a little flimsy compared to it. Once you try PM, it's hard to go back to stainless.

Gotta try them both on and preferably multiple times.

I used to own a 116618LB and found it a little too loud. It’s a great summer/beach/pool watch but its kind of hard to wear regularly year-round. Perfect watch for a holiday in the South of France.

For a sports watch, I find full gold works best on a Daytona.

To me Rolex = SS only. There's no allure for PM. Patek produces a more classic and timeless PM, and AP more ostentatious. If I wanted a PM dress watch, I'd go Patek, and for sports, AP.

I believe that is said because of the $20,000 to $30,000 price difference.

Both great options imo. Something to consider though is that a PM is a much heavier watch than the SS variants. The Sub and GMT are both chunky cases so you might find a much better fit having the adjustability of the glidelock on the sub.

Based on what you have now a 41mm sub will feel huge. I would look at a 90s or early 2000s gold sub. The 16618 would be my pick.

Gold sub with blue dial/bezel is a great piece to consider

I will concur with others. SS is great but the weight of the gold is intoxicating and makes you want to wear it more often.

Myself not a fan of professional models in PM, the only one I would consider is a Daytona, maybe even an OF model. The case is curved, and wears amazingly well compared to the Sub/GMT models.

However if I had to choose anything other pro model than a Daytona in PM, put me down for the new GMT YG on Jubilee

Serious question - why can’t you wear gold? I don’t mean to sound rude, I’m genuinely curious. Is it a religious thing or some kind of allergy? Does gold affect some people’s skin in a negative way?

Get the new GMT. It’ll be easy to flip if it doesn’t suit you.
