I know there are many trusted sellers on this site (like Takuya, OCwatchguy, SohAIS, etc). But are there any go-to people who will actually find a hard-to-find watch for me (for example a white dial 36mm OP Ref 116000)?

I don't know how rare they are. I just saw four listed on Chrono24.

You can probably find ten or more for sale through an internet search at any time.

I would have thought all the trusted sellers would probably be able to source most things but depending on how scarce that watch is will then add to the premium

While because of his reputation the price you might get for a trade-in would be a bit lower, or his pricing slightly higher, I've wired him money countless times and done so many deals with him just selling outright, buying outright, and trades from across the country.. you can't put a price on peace of mind in my opinion

Done deals with many other great great trusted sellers, I've had issues with a few others on this site, and none better than David

The trusted sellers have connections all over. They know other sellers and can get you what you want. Send them an email. They have more than they post here.

Any of them can source it because they all use the same WhatsApp and other groups of sellers / resources to source it from. That said, use who you feel best about doing business with.

Just an aside, many if not most of the non-AD watch dealers in NYC all know each other and can find you the watch you want. Some years ago I wanted a new Oris reference. The first shop didn’t have that one but made a couple of calls and 20 minutes later it was hand delivered to the store from an acquaintance.
Since you’re seeking a discontinued model, if you happen to be near NYC, I’d drop into one of the 47th St watch dealers and tell them what you want.

Another voice from the chorus in praise of DavidSW. I've contacted one of his staff, specifically Chris, to be on the lookout for a particular reference. Chris was very good about contacting me when one came through the inventory. I don't know that DavidSW or any of the trusted sellers will actually do the legwork for you however to physically "source" something. Perhaps some do??

I'm guessing they may have gotten stuck purchasing watches at the peak. A lot of the watches on their site, seem to have a high premium. They have a 2020 Panda Daytona for $37K, more than you would find on Chrono.
