15500ST for Daytona OF 116518?

Posted in the Rolex Forum and wanted to share it here as well...

Option 1) Buy a Daytona OF (126518/116518ln) Pikachu/YML in the grey market for roughly $41-43K.

Option 2) Proceed with Option 1 + sell my AP 15500 Black Dial for $32-33K to help offset the cost.

I love my RO a lot and it's a beautiful piece. But often times find myself wearing my Hulk more. I did get my RO directly from an AD so there's a sentimental aspect to the watch, due to how difficult it is to acquire one and was the watch I wore on our wedding day.

But if and when I'm able to get the Daytona, I envision myself wearing that and the Hulk more than I would the AP. My dilemma is do I hold onto a watch that would probably get worn the least or sell it and have an extra $30K to invest or play with.

Thanks!

If you don’t love the RO bracelet then unload it. I wouldn’t trade a RO for a Daytona though.

I have a 116518LN and a blue 15510ST. I would NOT trade the AP towards the Daytona.

I love both pieces, but the AP is truly something special. The overall craftsmanship and finish on the watch from the dial to the bracelet is absolutely tremendous.

You might wear the Daytona more often and you don't have to be as mindful with it on your wrist compared to a bracelet AP, but I think you would miss it if you parted ways with it. Especially with your sentimental connection and the fact that you were lucky enough to acquire it from a boutique!

Depends on your preference of course, but I would never do this.

I wouldn't do it, but ultimately you should do what fits you best.

In this market you might be further apart than you think.

I wouldn't trade a really good bracelet watch for strap Daytona and I'm a 3 Daytona guy.

Thank you for the insight. My worst fear would be having sellers remorse after the fact. The AP is a beautiful piece and I do enjoy it when it's on the wrist. But lucky you for having both pieces!

Great point and thank you. Means a lot coming from a Daytona guy.

My 116500ln white dial came first, following by my black 15500st. After getting my 15500st, I’ve since given my 116500ln to my wife. The value proposition of a RO suits my wants more than a Daytona.

But you should do as you please.

daytona wears real small, especially on a strap, it wears more like a 38mm. Personally, the RO is on another level and has far more presence on the wrist.

Personally I wouldn't, as AP is on a different level compared to a Rolex. I have 38, 39, 41mm AP as well as multiple Daytona (SS, YML, WG). Although I wear Daytona more often, but the AP is special.

If you are in HK, you know there are multiple Daytonas at every corner.

Today I got offered a Panda Daytona but I have to buy the new Ulysse Nardin 1183-170 titanium Beau lake limited edition. 11,900 includes the paddle board

I tried on the Daytona and it’s just underwhelming for me after my newest AP allocation
