AD discounts possible going forward?

I’ve noticed on the grey market, the prices of two tone skydwellers is often below retail prices for relatively as new examples. If offered a new two tone example now from an AD ,should a discount be asked for/expected for say a white dial or gold dial model on two tone jubilee or oyster ?

Like anything in life, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

That said, I think we’re a considerable way off AD’s discounting Rolexes, unless it’s for a very unpopular model that’s been sitting around, and it’s the end of month and they need to get their sales figures up.

Of course that may vary by AD, region and country…but I still feel discounting is a long way off.

ADs are still using the exhibition only ruse for now. dont think discounting for a rolex is on the cards at the moment. as seen from the other thread, there are still people who will jump on the opportunity to get any rolex from the AD.

bundling might be the first step in response to a soft market before offering outright discounts

Rolex will not let ADs offer discounts at the moment. If they do so, it's at the risk of losing the line.

Really? Buy an Omega and they'll certainly knock off 10%

That is not correct. ADs are discouraged but not forbidden to offer price reductions.
We are fast approaching some discounting on PM models.
A decade ago, PM DDs Subs and GMTs were 25% off. 2 decades ago, SS Subs were 20% off.
The market will soften for sure as the mania cools. Supply and demand at work.

Yeah, and you don't have to go back nearly that for for SS sports model discounts. I've said it before but I easily got a 15% discount on an 114060 in 2017. That was right around the turning point, one AD wouldn't discount at all for me then but the other had no problem giving me 15% when I asked.

The current state that seems "normal" to us now has really only been the case for a relatively short period of time, 5-6 years.

I think long term, this will be seen as a blip in the market and things will return to the previous "normal" where watches are available and discounts at least possible on some models.

I do think the road back to that will be interesting though. ADs are going to resist it as long as they can, keeping up the exhibition model thing to give the impression of a level of demand that likely no longer exists, as evidenced by the secondary market prices coming down. I'll be interesting to watch things unfold in the coming year or two.

So my long time AD got both Rolex & Tudor pulled this year. He was always fair and offered discounts when possible!

I had no choice but to look elsewhere and in my MKT there is alot of clients to say the least. I have had some luck with nothing special models from off brands and a DateJust. But I requested a Tudor Royal, I also asked for a discount. I was told nope they don't discount watches, which I replied I am only paying MSRP for Rolex/Patek in the current conditions.

Like everyone says ask, worst that happens is a NO or they dont sell you, who cares? Its just a watch!

Discounts are now available. Instead of buying three watches you don't want now you only have to buy one.

Discounts are possible but you need to be a bit lucky I guess. In 2020 I got 18% discount on my WG GMT Blue dial from my local AD.

It's always a good idea to have a friendly conversation with the AD and express your interest in the specific models you're looking for. They might be able to work something out for you. Remember, it never hurts to ask!

A good friend of mine picked up 5% off a PM piece. You can definitely ask…

I think the "for exhibition only" signs are going to have to come out of cases first before that happens. You need a PM piece sitting for 6 months to remind AD's of what it used to be like.

I think some AD's might be willing to do a percent or two for a cash deal. Basically split the credit card processing fee. I've also heard some AD's no longer want to deal with cash.

While its true that grey market prices can sometimes be below retail, However it never hurts to ask politely if there are any promotions or deals available.

Even Rolex state that the prices you see are “suggested”…

Always ask for a discount. Whether it is granted or not is another matter

Not from an OB unless it’s a not popular model. Most I have gotten is 5% but I have gotten “free” swag.

For years my AD has just been itching to give me a discount, he’s so close I can feel it. Maybe next time is the time.

i know of several discounts on PM models in recent time/space, in the USA (midwest) at a few dealers. Some PM pieces sticking around for awhile apparently. But may not see these discounts until after holiday now. Was different when financial market was down a month ago. A colleague was told that general foot traffic in the store was way down.

AD discounts possible going forward?

I think it highly depends on individual relationship with SA/AD/Manager/owner. Whenever I bought watches, my AD offered to cover the tax and threw in show tickets, or comped dinners. I feel those are better than discounts.

I think quite a few of you are into cars, and may be familiar with Tyler Hoover of Hoovie's Garage on Youtube.

His latest video is about the current free fall in used luxury SUV prices. Another data point for a drop in demand for luxury goods.

I've also noticed that the white dial BB chronograph is now around $4500 on the preowned market. A year ago that watch was trading for above MSRP but is now readily available at ADs.
