Am I nuts to even consider this trade...
Long-time lurker. Worked up the courage to post. Is it crazy to seek out a deal to turn a 126710BLNR Jubilee acquired at retail 11/2022 into a 18038 or 18238 DayDate, like a straight up trade if I can find one?
Hear me out: It gets squeezed out of much wrist time because if I want to wear SS GMT on Jubilee I will oftentimes wear my 16710 Pepsi because I prefer the 5 digit case dimension. If I want a more modern look (and I do like ceramic bezels) I will usually put on my 126711CHNR. I also have Sub Date 16610 L-serial that I like to wear. This is just the Rolex contingent of my box. I prefer smaller watches, and have been contemplating the DayDate with the idea of wearing it probably more often on a strap, but if I want to, with the full Tony Soprano effect. I love the look and dimensions of the watch, and actually like the look of the vintage 36's over the modern ones. It is not a money thing, I just hate having a bunch of stuff I don't wear, and the BLNR despite the fact that it is a looker, gets the squeeze when it comes to wrist time. Thanks for letting me think out loud and I appreciate any input. |

Not nuts at all if it's what you want.
Given your collection and preferences, I think the DD would be a nice addition. |

Sure why not. If your BLNR is not getting the use you intended, sell it for something that you will. I bet if these watches were cars instead, the decision would be easier. Just equate these timepieces to cars and it may make the decision easier.

If you’ll use/like the DD more, I’d make the trade.

I like the 36mm DD and if you are not wearing the BLNR then a trade works.

Do it. YG DD is awesome and I like the brushed lugs and old gold charm

Easy call, I’d do it now and not look back. Just run the numbers to make sure you get the best deal.

Although id love to add a GMT to my collection, if yours isn’t getting the wrist time then maybe it’s time to move it on. I too dislike having stuff sitting around and have been trying to keep a limit on number of watches in the collection.
Just make sure you’re not acting too hastily - stick it away in a cupboard for a month or two to make sure you won’t miss it when it’s gone! |

Not nuts at all. I'd be much happier with the 18238 or 18038

Seems like you like vintage. Personally the hollow links, old style text with yellowed datewheel, friction fit clasp that pops open easily, all bothered me too much to keep previous 18238 but if you don't mind these things it could work for you. Modern 6 digit fixes those issues so I'd go for that if I were you.

I’d go for the newer reference.

Dontcha think that even though an older reference, the 18XXX DayDate has more inherent value? If this even figures into the equation - I mean, I've been told that the gold value alone in that watch is 10K USD which approaches the RRP of the BLNR. The issue with the BLNR is certainly hype, and you might wait and see for a little bit what happens with the Rolex lineup at watches and wonders this year.
I like the charm of the older references as well as the value represented. I also have too many, and would like to consolidate for some higher value pieces, it is just when I start thinking about it my head goes to swimming. Good Luck. |

Me, too. You could even sell your BLNR at a premium (privately) & may throw a few $thousand on top to get a 6-digit DD36 (better clasp). That would be my move.

You know where I live. Feel free to send some pieces south to alleviate some of your clutter.

I’m all for a cooling off period and letting the idea stew for at least 6 months and see what watch is still calling you after that.

I’d be quite surprised if that was anywhere near true.

Welcome to the forum
I just traded a BLNR along with a couple other watches for a 128235. I say go for it but get the 18238 for the double quick set

I was thinking that the movement would be a significant portion of the weight, but really hadn’t done the math.
