I replaced 2 SS Rolex with this piece. No regrets.

You're just like most of us, mate. The Daytona sounds out for you. The GMT and Sub are clearly two different classes. It doesn't matter which one you pick now as both are easy to flip later.

WG sub, but if you put WG Daytona in the mix, then we really have a Migraine coming.

Glad to see others having the same dilemma with some having the courage to go for it.
I have come to a decision last week (no thanks to those beautiful Smurf pics guys!) that I will be selling a few from my collection (Hulk + BLNR) to get the Smurf. You guys are a bunch of enablers!! |

For me, the WG Sub does it all and more. In fact ownership of it caused me to greatly reduce wearing of three of my watches. Six months in without any end of the honeymoon phase. After getting one, the only question is whether to sell your other watches now or later?

Agree with Mike and Tom. Once you go gold, your SS watches will just sit there unworn anyway. I still own a SS Datejust that I "can't" sell because it matches my wife's. I own a Speedmaster Moon because part of me says I "should" - graduation year watch. And I own a ceramic GMT which is getting sold / traded the second I get a BLRO.

I own a gold dress watch, a stainless daily, and a travel/beater.
My SS daily is a Daytona. If it were in my budget, I would definitely upgrade the SS to WG Daytona. I imagine if I were a Sub guy (I love Subs, but Daytona is my favorite), I would cash in the SS collection for WG. The WG (Sub/Daytona) would also double as a dress watch in a pinch. As for variety, we are all different. I used to like variety, now I like my small collection. Not sure I could do only ONE WG, but I bet I wouldn't trade it back for two or three stainless ones! |

BLNR, especially is the SS Daytona does not appeal to you as much as before. Maybe add the WG Sub in the future as I am not a fan of slimming down a collection to fund the purchase of a new watch. I did not come to this realization until recently when I was contemplating on selling my Submariner Date 16610 to fund a new watch. After receiving useful feedback from fellow forum members and some much needed self thought on the matter, the decision was made to keep the 16610 and add to my collection.
Good luck. |

Some of this will depend on your financial resources and flexibility. Since you never really know how a watch will work into your collection until you own it, adding to your collection and then selling later can be helpful in getting long term keepers. So if you are thinking of jumping up a class in watches, and you can afford it at least for awhile, you could get the WG Sub and keep the others. Then see how you feel after a few months of ownership and sell what's not getting worn. But one "problem" with upgrading is that once you've had a really great watch, it becomes the new standard for future purchases.
