116520 movement

Was the 116520 movement the first one made by Rolex? The previous version was by Zenith but I don’t know if Rolex ever made the movements for earlier versions of the Daytona. Thanks

The 116520 has an in-house Rolex movement. The previous generation five digit Daytona has a zenith movement. The four digit Daytona is powered by a valjoux movement.

The cal 4130 used in the Daytona was first introduced in 2000 and was Rolex first ever in-house made chronograph movement.Plus it was the first movement to use the in-house made parachrome hairspring but back then it was more of a grey colour.

The 4130 movement, used in the 116520 was Rolex/Aegler first automatic chronograph movement.

The previous 4030 Rolex modified Zenith movement was used because it was an automatic, and replaced older Valjoux based manual movements
